Deluded Custodian Teaser
Would You Rather Be a Live Alien or a Dead Human?
By evening time, Fee — dressed provocatively in red — approached a likely-looking guy leaving a bar in town…
“Hey Phil, look at this! It looks like a fossil, but it almost looks like it might be alive!”
The archaeologists found many of these strange, well-preserved amber inclusions. Most were taken back to the lab, but cheekily, Jeff pocketed one of them.
Later, that night as he slept alongside his wife — Fee — the previously hibernating existential fossil took on a slug like appearance, before slithering out of the coat pocket, up the side of the bed and finally popping into Fee’s open mouth while she continued to slumber.
Finally, one of the recently unearthed relics from a bygone age had found a host.
The following day, Fee looked exactly the same, but had been inwardly transformed. She lavished affection on her husband until he couldn’t take it anymore, bent her over the kitchen table and planted his seed inside his wife.
What he didn’t realise was in the act of lovemaking the alien trespasser had infiltrated Jeff, so now he was also one of the non-indigenous intruders.
As the couple sat outside a café later that day while throwing coffee grounds to the dust devil, from his jar of fresh-brewed Moka Java, Jeff and Fee chatted about the secret mission of the race from which they belonged.
They were an invasive species, and all they needed to do was procreate to pass on their deoxyribonucleic acid. They suspected it wouldn’t take long.
By evening time, Fee — dressed provocatively in red — approached a likely-looking guy leaving a bar in town…
“Dude, wanna go to the in-between? You need to pay upfront.”
The money would finance the room at the In-between Motel.
Jeff stole the remaining fossils that had been unearthed on the dig and set up a spawning centre. The slug like creatures would be used to ‘inhabit’ the children.
Within a month, the whole town had been infected. Any who resisted were terminated.
Time to move on to the next…

My Teaser was inspired by the above story — a stream-of-consciousness collaboration between Debdutta Pal, Ann James & Robert Gowty — which won the November 2023 Deluded Custodian Challenge.
I used one sentence (shown in italics) from each of the author's sections and created my tale around them. I believe the 1st is by Robert, the 2nd by Ann and the last by Debdutta. But I could be wrong.
