World’s 1st Ever Space Hotel to Open in 2027, Voyager Station
A new destination is about to open its doors to people planning a post-pandemic trip. The world’s first commercial space hotel, Voyager Station, is set for opening in 2027.
“We’re trying to make the public realize that this golden age of space travel is just around the corner. It’s coming. It’s coming fast,” Blincow told CNN in an interview.
John Blincow, an ex-pilot, runs Orbital Assembly Corporation, which plans to build a luxury space hotel by 2027. A commercial space station with artificial gravity will be the first major project for OAC. The hotel will be designed with a “science fiction meets modern” feel and will offer guests breathtaking views of Earth and the Milky Way galaxy from their room! To establish a self-sufficient and robust space construction industry, Orbital Assembly Corporation was founded. Initially, a center unpressurized ring structure will be constructed for containing a docking hub in the rotating hotel. By using a spoke network, the outer ring will be linked to the central ring, and 24 habitation modules will be attached to the central ring. The ring-shaped hotel will have artificial gravity to prevent tourists from floating away. Interesting Engineering says Voyager Station will spin like a Ferris wheel and simulate moon-like gravity using centrifugal force.
Location and accommodation details for Voyager Station
Taking up 50,000 square meters, the hotel will accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members. Construction of the hotel will begin in 2026, and OAC hopes to welcome the first guests in 2027. This project was made possible by opening up low Earth orbit and beyond to construction, resource harvesting, and infrastructure development. The OAC hopes to take advantage of the decreasing launch costs and improvement in safety and reliability.
Food & Entertainment at Voyager station
Space food will be served by OAC, such as freeze-dried ice cream.
“We want to have Sting come up and play, and Beyoncé. There’ll be two shows every night. … That’s part of the entertainment package.” said Blincow.
Guests will enjoy out-of-this-world activities such as weightless basketball. It is expected to be smooth sailing for hotel guests, who can sleep, eat, shower, and use the restroom normally, according to Blincow.
He also said “There’s nothing between you and the universe but the face plate. Going out there and looking at the whole solar system and the Earth from the outside,it’s going to be an extraordinary moment.”
Travel Costs to Voyager station
Three and a half-day stay will cost $5 million. According to the company, as time goes by, rates may become more reasonable. The team told CNN Travel that it would eventually cost the same as “a trip on a cruise or a trip to Disneyland”.
By The Washington Post reporter, tourists hoping to visit the hotel will have to undergo some training. The SpaceX Starship shuttle will be used to transport visitors.
“We cannot call SpaceX our partner, but in the future, we look forward to working with them.” Said Blincow.
