Words Left Unspoken
Susan and Harry were always together. People always said if you see one the other is not to far behind. They were childhood sweethearts. The years passed put time and distances between them. Susan went to college on the west coast and Harry went to the east coast. They agreed to keep in touch which they did in the beginning.
Susan became a successful lawyer and Harry a successful architect. They were both very involved in their careers with not much time for relationships. Harry and Sally both traveled for their jobs attending conferences and training sessions.
Susan and Harry both were always trying to improve their position in life. They were unaware that this common factor would bring them back together again. The conference being one of the biggest in California attracted a diversity of professional attendees. The morning of the opening session the breakfast area was a popular spot to begin the day.
Susan the extrovert started to mingle with the crowd and Harry the introvert mingled less. Harry began his way back to the breakfast area about that time Susan noticed some muffins she missed during her first visit. Little had changed in their physical appearance for both of them. The years had been kind to both.
Harry made his way down the breakfast line and started to reach for another muffin to eat. He turned to leave an bump into the woman behind him. Harry turned around and said excuse me. Susan turned around and immediately said no problem my fault. Their eyes met Susan first then Harry is that you. They embraced and it was just like old times. They exchanged numbers and planned to meet later that night for dinner.
The rest of the day was much brighter for both. The first day over they met for dinner. The conversation turned to family and friends. Harry being the introvert could’t bring himself to ask the question. This question was on his mind all day after they met that morning. He noticed no wedding ring on her finger. Harry wondered if she was thinking the same thing. Susan finally said Harry are you married? Harry said no are you? They both laughed. The glow in their eyes still there for one another burning bright. They held hands remembering the time as children growing up.
Harry looked at Susan and said there is something I have to tell you. Many years ago before we left for college I meant to say these words to you. I left these words unspoken. I have always regretted this Susan I don’t want to make the same mistake twice.
“ Susan I have always loved you from the very beginning and always will. No matter were you are no matter the distance my heart will always be yours”
Susan smiled and tears flowed from her eyes. Harry you don’t know how have longed to hear the words from you. I too left words unspoken before we left for college. I always wondered when are paths would cross again. My prayers have been answered now we can begin are life together forever.
