Word Weavers

The words we speak when infused with intention can become a magical gift.

Inspired by Wednesday’s Prompt: Words are spells, thoughts are intentions, actions are rituals.

The world turns without us making any effort, our bodies breath all by themselves, no thought required, but it can be added. Each day begins with the potential that anything can happen, the way we meet shaping our feelings and actions. Could we lie in bed that moment longer, actively choosing the day before us? Could we breathe those wishes out into the air as we shape sounds into words and draw dreams into tangible moments?

As the day closes, could we release it with a spoken thank you, acknowledging the lessons offered and times experienced? Could we breathe out the last lingering stressed of the day as we voice our experiences to loved ones and watch the tension fly from us on the words we push out into the world?

We all use the same words. The average person’s vocabulary is only 20 thousand active words with an extra 40 thousand held passively to pop up when needed. So even if we imagine ourselves especially well-read, or as writers, as connoisseurs of language, we don’t use as many as we think.

Each one with its shared meaning, holding the power to capture the imagination, hurt, comfort, and carry the listener off to a multitude of worlds. Each one with its ability to release something in us as we share our thoughts, or hide behind as we spin a web of disguise made of half-truths, platitudes, and polite chit chat.

As they fall from our lips are they idly discarded or spun with the intentional care of a weaver? What turns everyday words into magic is the intention and the power behind them. The emotions of the speaker intertwine with the words, infusing them with the hopes, desires, and meaning, as the mind, like a cauldron stirs.

Days fly past. We get used to the simple interactions, repeated on automation, but these opportunities to spin our webs further shouldn’t be taken for granted. Change the dance from a shuffled sidestep to a deliberate enchantment. A moment to stop, breathe the same air as your eyes meet, a smile exchanged, and words gifted to bless their day. The ritual of greetings charged with intention and emotion, a spell cast, and magic begun.
