Word Feathers
Am I just words on a page with no power?

I’m just words on a page, weaved together using rhythm and rhyme. I’m an image on a page, constructed with poetic and literary devices, transporting you to see my world, as I see it — scribbles on the sunnyside of the moon.
“I’m just words on a page,” you say, but I transport you to someone’s soul. To someone’s heart desires far across oceans and time. I make you leap and sing with joy, or cry with sadness. I stir emotions in you that were deeply hidden under tons of life rubble.
I’m word feathers that can soothe your pain. I’m word feathers that comfort your loneliness. I have the power of a rolling tsunami in your world. I can shake and rattle your soul within my verses and stanzas. “I’m just words on a page.” Do you still believe that I have no power?
Author’s note: My muse decided it was time to pretend to be a poem and voice his opinions on poetry and its power.
I wonder if it has anything to do with some of my school kids’ grunts, facial expressions, and remarks whenever I mention the word poetry. This poem gave me an idea for a poetry prompt for The Poetry Club publication.
Poetry prompt: If you were a poem with the opportunity to send a message to the world, or speak to humanity, what would your message be?
