Since I was very young, my grandmother used to say that women can never enter cemeteries when they are menstruating.

My grandmother’s grandmother said that this cannot happen and passed the word from generation to generation until it reached me now.

My grandmother says that this saying is very old and it is very important that women follow.

She explained to me that the cemetery is not a peaceful place when it comes to souls and spirits and blood is something that attracts spirits!

When a woman is menstruating and enters a cemetery, she draw the attention of the spirits that are there and as you can imagine, in a cemetery there will be immense spirits.

Now, on the 1st of November, All Saints' Day is celebrated here in Portugal and every year people go to see their loved ones at the cemetery. Every year here in the village, women are reminded that they cannot enter menstruating.

Funny how such an old saying goes from generation to generation and for me it will continue to pass through my generation.I like to know about these older sayings, everything that is mystical and spiritual fascinates me and if we can prevent more vibrations against us, I’m sure we will do our best to avoid it.
