Summary

A woman of color shares her long-held passion for gardening and her journey towards creating her own garden as a sanctuary from societal challenges.

Abstract

The author, a woman of color, expresses her deep-rooted passion for cultivating a diverse and vibrant flower garden, a dream deferred for years due to living in a condo. She metaphorically likens her quest for a personal space to plant and nurture flowers in a society that presents challenges ("a society full of thorns"). Her vision includes a garden bursting with colors, akin to a rainbow or a princess's attire, symbolizing beauty and hope. The garden represents more than just an aesthetic endeavor; it's a therapeutic space where she can find peace, counteract negativity, and connect with nature. She cherishes the idea of waking up to the sight of her garden, which she began in 2020 after moving into a house. The author concludes by thanking the readers, expressing her emotional investment in her writing, and directing them to another piece about the power of poetry.

Woman of Color

I am so passionate about growing a garden full of flowers but couldn’t find a place for roses as I lived in a condo for fifteen years

I am a woman of colour, who is looking for a place to cover, and to call it her own in a society full of thorns.

I want to plant it with some vibrant forms, some lush green, some purple, some pink, and some yellow similar to a corn.

Like a rainbow in the sky after a sprinkle of raindrops Like a beautiful princess in her colorful attire, coming to meet her prince to a magnificent prom.

But most of all I aspire to wake up to a garden to look through my window and claim it my own where I can bury the hatred of others and echo of my groan

I wish to make my hands dirty while I envelop them in dirt to embody the tranquility of Earth in my restless soul to breathe the crisp air of morning breeze while I take a stroll around my garden full of natural scents of Earth’s crops.

Thank you for reading I pour my heart out in my words. I hope you like it. Finally, I got the chance to live in the house and started my own garden in 2020.
