Without You

A poem

Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

The morning was bright The last time I saw you Leaving my life Without me knowing You said you were going To do some shopping But you never came back

I called my friends The hospitals and police stations But they said it was too soon To do anything It was only a matter of hours Since you left the home we shared But instinctively I knew You wouldn’t be back

Finally, after dithering all-day I checked your wardrobes I had been putting it off Fearing what I’d find My fears turned into My living nightmare Your wardrobes were as empty As my heart was bereft

I finally found A note on the table Buried beneath The unopened bills You said you liked me But no longer loved me You had run off with Somebody else

My tears ran down My anguished body I felt lost And empty inside No longer we’ll be Partners in this life No longer I’ll be The man that you love
