With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
Acting responsibly takes courage. Mankind is spiritually responsible for all that he does.

SPIRITUAL SATURDAY
All the time, every time, our lives are full of choices. Being responsible involves making the right choices, each time, every time, and sometimes under the most difficult circumstances, the choices have to be made. This is because our THOUGHTS and actions have ripple effects on the decisions we made which invariably connect us. The responsibility begins at our thinking of the thought, not at the time of the action, which is only a result of the thought. For:
Resolution is the awakening of serious intention
Train your conscience to always do the right thing, have a positive impact on people and take control of your life.
Responsible people have clearly defined values they imbued in their lives as everyday ethics like compassion, fairness and self-respect.
Moral Responsibility
This arises out of moral and ethical obligation to us and to others. It is an expectation of what is good and bad, right and wrong, and how each one of us is expected to go naturally along the good pathway. Moral responsibility assumes our free will to make choices.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.’’ Deuteronomy 30:19
There is moral responsibility in all aspects of life, among others in our business life, family life, civil obligation and all aspect of our dealing with others.
Five Elements Of Spiritual Responsible Behaviour
There are five key points to being responsible. If we take a look, they are all sort of interwoven, and cannot be separated from one another. Let us look at each individual element.
1. Accountability — A Conscious Deliberate Choice
Some people are not able to differentiate accountability from responsibility. Accountability is raising your head high by accepting the result of your choices, decisions and even mistakes.
‘’An unexamined life is not worth living.’’ Socrates
Accountability is NOT making excuses or being involved in the blame game. If you do this, you are trying to shift the blame to an issue or someone else, and this will make you look ridiculous to all concerned.
If you are going to be accountable, you would have weighed the pros and cons of what the outcome might be before making any decision. Accountability is being true to your words, as this makes you dependable. It means you are someone who is reliable.
2. Honesty — Acting Truthfully And With Integrity
Honesty is another important element. Honesty and integrity go together. Honesty is having your decision based on merit and circumstantial evidence. Decisions are based on all facts and relevant alternatives.
Another vital issue in honesty is to be open to correction and criticism. This is because no one knows it all or is an island of knowledge. There’s always something to learn from other people.
‘’The only true wisdom is knowing that you know nothing.’’ Socrates.
3. Courage — Speak Against Injustice At Great Personal Risk
We have all heard the saying that all it takes for evil to continue is for the good people to keep silent. So courage is facing the injustice in the system that is around us and doing something to counter effect it.
‘’I learnt that courage was not the absence of fear, but triumph over it’’ Nelson Mandela
We definitely won’t be the most popular person, but we would have satisfied our conscience in combating the injustice.
4. Be The Light Of The World
Every one of us emits a degree of light, and this light must be used to illuminate the darkness around us. How do we do this? By a complete rejection of all that is false and dark. Every time we do the right thing, we conquer the darkness and increase our light. This is our responsibility to the world around us. This is what we do with the opportunities that life provides.
Without your light, someone will stumble, someone will fall
One will never increase the spiritual light by inactivity or negativity. It is better to make mistakes and learn from them than to play safe and do nothing. The mistakes bring with them the experience one needs to increase the light.
One cannot do without the light that one is following, likewise, the person following us cannot do without the light that we are providing. Our light will always attract those who are wandering in darkness. We are all interdependent, cannot do without each other, and must accept the opportunities life provides to serve each other. And of course, there is always a price to pay. It is only when we say, the price is too high that we limit our capacity for light.
5. Take Personal Responsibility — The Intuitive Perception
We all have the free will to make a decision, this means we can attract what we really want. It is this ability to make the decision that lies at the heart of our responsibility. Think good thoughts always.
‘’A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’’ Luke 6:45, NKJV
No matter how we exercise our free will in decision making, whether in thoughts, actions, choices, agreements or obedience, only the decision is free, and the consequences of the decision are no longer so. We are unconditionally subject to them. They strike through the law of reciprocal action, according to the nature of the decisions.
The Final Thought
- It is therefore noteworthy to ensure that we take adequate care in all our thoughts, decisions, and actions, that is our personal responsibility for which we are accountable.
- Remember that, to say that you have no choice in a matter or decision is trying to relieve yourself of your responsibility.
- Moral responsibility permeates all our relationships with others.
