Synchronicity sings again as I read the weekend prompt this morning.

Luscious long rains blessed the countryside last night after two weeks of extreme heat and humidity. Mr. Green Fingers (my hubby) had been rising early to tend his veggies while the day was still cool. I’d been waking at dawn to write before the sizzling temperatures frazzled my brain and muse.

With today being cloudy and cooler, we could work in our humble garden scraped out of the sand and stone of the bushveld surrounding us.

We needed to thin out the kale we planted four weeks ago. Most of the seeds had sprouted, and the seedlings were too close together. Hubby is 81 and not that agile, so I undertook to do the transplanting.

The soil was soft and loamy from the rains. The sweet aroma of damp earth filled my nostrils and my heart. Dressed in old track pants, t-shirt, and worn out sneakers having their second lease on life as gardening shoes, off I went.

I prefer not to wear gloves. With my arthritic fingers, I love the tactile experience of pressing each plant firmly into their new spacious home. And rejoice in the gritty earth sitting under my fingernails.

The morning’s endeavor continued as birdsong played the accompaniment. But today I detected a more joyful orchestration, as if the birds were celebrating the fresh moisture lingering in every tree and blade of grass.

My morning meditation connects me with the oneness of everything in the Universe. But my activities in the garden afterward provided a bonus. The boundaries between Self and nature dissolved — a sense of inner peace and connection prevailed.

“We are here to awaken from the illusion of separateness.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

As the clouds build up behind the mountains across the valley, heralding more rain, I marvel at the unity of all that is.

Working in the garden this morning made up for my disappointment at not being able to view the Full Moon last night because of the overcast sky!

Thank you for being here.
