Witchy Interviews Tamil on Cricket Guts, Vampire Races, and Nose Meatballs

Seriously, Witchy?!

Note from Liberty:

Hello, and Happy Sunday!

As you may (or may not) know, our little blue witch friend is conducting interviews of our beloved Pub Family members. Today, Witchy shares her interview with Tamil.

Aside from being a gifted writer who shares her heart on Medium, Tamil is also the mother of two children, one of whom is a precocious young daughter. The stories of their conversations are as heartwarming and hilarious as they are insightful and inspiring.

Enjoy learning more about Tamil, a sweet, funny, and entertaining member of our Pub Family!

As Witchy doesn’t have her own Medium account, she is using mine.

1 — What do you love about Writing?

Writing awakens gratitude in me! It started with writing journals from fifth grade. At the end of every day, I kept a log of people I met, what I ate, my dress colour, and what was special about that day! The best thing is that I always find something to be grateful for.

Writing is the expression of my soul in its pure form, a crucial part of my self-care routine! Everything I ever need in any challenging situation is a pen and notebook! The secret behind my problem-solving expertise!

I love how writing brings me back to the present, allowing me to spot the hidden beauty and treasures in everyday life! It helps me self-reflect and grounds me to become my best version!

Witchy: Wow. Writing does all that for you? And it even helps you find hidden treassures? That would be so much fun! Oh! Oh! Is that like buried treasures? Do you get a treasure map? I wish I had a treasure map! It would be exciting to figure it out and count paces from the rock to the tree, or ‘Dig under the crooked end of the bridge’ or other fun stuff like that.

Oh, how I would love a treasure map! And a buried treasure! Oh! Do you think it would be in an actual treasure chest? Like the ones in the movies? Oh, how exciting! I wonder if it is filled with jewels and gold and —

Liberty: Witchy!

Witchy: Um…yes?

Liberty: Breathe!

Witchy: Already? It’s only the first question this time.

Liberty: (*offers a wry look*)

Witchy: 🙄

2 — What games are you good at playing?

I love team sports! The idea of giving the best together as a team has always cheered me and motivated me to deliver high performance as a player and Captain!

My favourite sports are basketball and cricket!

Witchy: 😳 Umm…I am not sure I want to know what kind of sport you make out of crickets! Do you smack them like in tennis? Do you hit them with a hockey stick? Does everyone try to grab the poor little cricket and pile on top of it like in football? Ohhh, squishy cricket guts! Ew!

3 — Which movie needs a sequel, and what would happen in it?

Ah, this one is hard since I mostly watch movies based on true stories.

I am not really good with fiction. But let me try something for Witchy!

How about Titanic-2? Rose wakes up to find the entire movie was just her dream. She breathes a sigh of relief in disbelief. Also, extremely glad that she still has years to go!

She gets out of bed and realises she is already late to meet her boyfriend in the coffee shop. They discuss her dream over coffee and leave for work.

Later in the evening, a gift box is waiting for her at the doorstep when she arrives home. She unwraps the gift to find the exact necklace she saw in her dream with a note that says, “Jack is back”. She remains still until the ringing phone wakes her up.

Her boyfriend is on the line, and she instantly realises what has happened. They laugh at each other.

She is determined to make every day of her life count and grow old with happy memories!

I warned you, I am not really good at this ;-)

Witchy: Ooo, you tell good stories! That was even a little bit spooky! I like a little bit spooky. Too much spooky scares me, though,👻 and I have to hide under the bed! 💨 🛌🏼 👀

I like the sound of your sequel and I think I could watch that one but I have not been able to watch Titanic. I do not know if I will ever be able to do it! Liberty told me what it is about and she said it is too scary for me. I try to be brave but I am not very good at it sometimes. Especially with films.

Liberty also told me the story of Jack and Rose so I know what your sequel means, and why the gift from Jack would be spooky!

4 — Where would you absolutely never want to go?

I would never want to go back or forward in time. I want to live in the present to the fullest.

Long story short: There is no place I never want to go.

Witchy: I would never want to go to the inside of a wasp nest. 😳

5 — What is the most ridiculous fact/bit of trivia that you know?

I was stunned to find out bees can end the human race. I greatly respect the beekeepers after watching all the documentaries about how hard it is to do beekeeping. Hats off to those who care for the bees and the human race!

Witchy: The humans are having a race?? 🏃🏿🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ In the Transylvania Forest, we witches never raced. That would have been silly because we could have all cast spells to win, and poof! Everyone would have been at the finish line at the same time!

The vampires never raced either. It would have been beneath them. I mean, can you imagine them in jogging suits and sneakers? 🧛‍♂️ No running for vampires.

Plus they would also be too afraid to turn into bats 🦇 and have a flying race because none of them could bear to lose. Boy, those guys have egos the size of Jupiter.🤦🏻‍♀️

I wonder why bees want to stop humans from racing. Maybe they get dizzy watching humans run fast. Or maybe it scares them when humans run because they think the humans are chasing them! It would be easy for bees to stop a race; they would only have to show up in a swarm of millions before it starts.

6 — You are a superhero with the unlikely power to shoot meatballs out of your nose. Please describe a story in which this fantastic ability “saved the day!”

Directing you to question 7.

Witchy: 😳❓

7 — If your pet could talk, what’s one thing it could say that would completely ruin your image?

Ah, I knew this would come true someday! And that is absolutely why I have no pets!

Hypothetically writing, if my pet Lucy could talk, I would pick my superpower and shoot the meatballs out of my nose to distract her and save my day! That’s gross, I know, and so is ruining someone’s image, Lucy ;-)

Witchy: 🤭 ❗❗❗

8 — What would be an unusual way to use hair mousse?

Apply it to remove the wrinkles on the clothes and give it a smooth, glide finish ;-)

Witchy: Oh! That is so clever! What a great idea! It would reduce the number of ironing accidents.

Illustration by Witchy. To read the whole story of her Inuit friend’s plight and rescue, click here.

Hmm. Maybe it would also work to remove wrinkles from skin. Especially those stubborn ones you get after the first five or six centuries. I mean, uh, not that I have any…🙄

9 — What is the creepiest thing you can imagine seeing in framed photos in someone’s house?

The person in the photo tilting their head to wink at me.

Witchy: Oh, dear!😱 That would be more than creepy! That would be terrifying! 👹 I would hide under the bed for sure! 💨 🛌🏼 👀

10 — What’s the coolest picture you could put on a postage stamp?

How about a water cooler image, so people can remember to drink their 8 cups of water every time they see the postage stamp ;-)

Witchy: Annnd…imagine if email needed postage stamps…it would work even better!

11 — What’s the greatest thing you hope to achieve in your life?

The greatest thing I wish to achieve is to unleash my potential to the fullest! And write books based on my life experiences.

Witchy: Those are exciting goals, Tamil! You are already well on the way to making both of them happen. You write lots about your life on Medium and it is always fun and interesting to read. Liberty and I especially love the funny stories you tell about the conversations you have with your daughter. Liberty says she will keep you on your toes. That sounds uncomfortable. Do you want to be on your toes all the time? I would not. Ouch.

One of my biggest goals is to never blow up anything. I mean, again. 🙄

Thank you for being my guest today, Tamil. It was fun to play with you. I hope lots of people sign up for your Substack newsletter, Magic Bytes, where they will “Discover the magic in everyday life!”

Next week’s guest: Our lovely friend, Suma Narayan!

A couple of hilarious, short “Tamil’s daughter” stories…buckle up!! This kid is a firecracker!
