Wish On Everything. Pink Cars Are Good — On The Magic Of Making Wishes
The Surprising Power And Necessity Of Everyday Little Wishes

“Wish on everything. Pink cars are good, especially old ones. And stars of course, first stars and shooting stars. Planes will do if they are the first light in the sky and look like stars. Wish in tunnels, holding your breath and lifting your feet off the ground. Birthday candles. Baby teeth.”― Francesca Lia Block
Where would we be without wishes? Aren’t wishes the very things that give us a reason to continue on when it feels so hard? Like hope, they are fragile things, with easily broken wings, yet without them, life becomes unendingly, unsurvivably dull, and without reason or purpose.
And really, life is made inside the little wishes: the wish fulfilled for a warm cup of coffee on a cold morning, the wish for a new tv to enjoy binge-watching, the wish for just one extra minute in bed to enjoy the coziness before beginning your day.
“There’s no point having wishes if you don’t at least try to do them” ― Sally Nicholls
I’m grateful for the wishes that come true, like that warm cup of coffee, and I’m also grateful for many of the wishes unfulfilled for my reactions to those wishes being unmet tells me what matters most, what is worth working extra hard for next time around and what I didn’t need or want in the first place. My reactions to my wishes teach me so much about my inner-true self.
“Because hope comes from in you, and wishes are just magic.”― Laini Taylor
Wishes are where the magic in our mundane moments hide.
Look for them.
Notice them.
Embrace them.

What would you wish for if you were to close your eyes and make a teensy, tiny, totally heartfelt wish that was just for you?
“If wishes were horses, my mortal father used to say, beggars would ride.”― Holly Black
We ride at dawn.
