Wise Words from a Cat

Let me tell you something about wisdom that only cats know

A relaxing read for your tea break to ground your overactive mind.

Hi, my name is Gingi and today I’m taking over Midori’s blog.

Don’t underestimate me just because I’m an old, fat cat. I’ve seen Midori using this machine enough to know how to write a few words with my voice.

Finding Voice

Midori is always finding her voice.

In a household filled with people, Midori, like Beth March from Little Women, prefer to let others speak and keep her head down.

She likes to sit in her bed to read, think and write. There are two desks in her room but they are never used.

So I like to sit with her in her bed too. This is where there are true peace and quiet in this home filled with hoomans and other pets. When I’m here, the chatty doggo won’t come in.

Midori is finding her voice in writing. Sometimes it looks like she’s possessed by some spirit, and her hands will start typing on the keyboard uncontrollably. She told me that writing is not up to her, she just has to write. It’s not up to her when to start and when to stop. This gets her into trouble a lot, this worries her.

Hoomans love to overthink

I don’t know how to tell Midori that she tends to overthink, not only about writing but everything.

So much so that I know she is diagnosed with anxiety disorder, because I was by her side, when she’s crying to her therapist.

Midori worries a lot, but it seems like most hoomans do. This I learnt from lying next to her during a guided meditation. After the meditation, she asked me if she can call me Zen going forward.

I protested by sitting on her phone until she promised me my name is still Gingi.

Role model

One day, Midori spent the whole day lying in bed. She was not writing, not reading and not sleeping. It looked like she was paralysed, staring at the ceiling.

I walked on her body, giving her a massage. Tears fell down her cheeks like a little stream, the pillow was about to become a puddle.

I rolled myself into a ball by her left hand. I started by licking my own body but then I thought maybe I could lick her hand too.

After a while, she finally moved again, I jumped. She stroked my head, which was nice, and she said I need to learn from you.

I totally agree, Midori, you must learn from me. I’m an old, wise cat.

Every morning I patiently wait for Midori to wake up, then when I see the door opens, I slip inside her room like a ninja. This is important so that I can claim my spot in the bed and also play rolling game when she is making the bed. It’s fun, like surfing but dry. I prefer dry.

Then I enjoy my day watching the world goes by, I find stillness. I also notice which part of my body needs licking. Then I remind hoomans that I need food, and they will give me what I need.

I don’t just sit there doing nothing, because I'm very attuned to my body. When my body tells me to exercise, I sneak outside to smack some rats, or practice line walking on the top of the fence. I’m a born acrobat.

I provide comfort to my favourite hooman, Midori obviously, but I don’t lose myself like that stupid doggo to please them. I’m an independent cat with secure attachment.

Every minute is a meditative minute

Midori seemed to have understood me. She sat upright and hugged me tightly. I lied on my back, open wide my four sturdy legs like a happy baby, requesting a massage.

But of course, Midori. You have to pay me with a massage for I just shared with you the wisdom of living. Every minute is a body scan, every minute is an opportunity to tune in with your physical, psychological and spiritual needs. You just have to make time for it.

When I’m not bashing the rat or comforting Midori, I treasure every minute to connect with the universe. I’m one with the universe, that’s why my fur is so shiny and rich.

I get up and stare at Midori, I told her to chant this with me now:

Meow, meow, meow May I be one with the universe May I be aware of my body needs May I satisfy my soul May I have peace Meow, meow, meow

Midori note

I came home and found this message from Gingi on my laptop.

Maybe Gingi is the descendants of Natsuki Soseki’s cat from his famous book “I’m a Cat”. The book is about the lives of Japanese middle-class in the early 1900s, narrated by the cat.

Thank you Gingi.
