Abstract

ime of slowing down, standing still, reflecting. Reflecting on what this precious thing called “life” actually is. How important our friends really are to us. To tell someone genuinely: “I love you”. To grab a moment, any moment, by its temporal tail and live in it.

I use my camera like some people use yoga or meditation. Winter

Slowing down to touch life

January 2022. COVID is burning through the land like a forest fire, followed by death, sickness, fear, and desperation.

When can I go back to normal? What actually is “normal”? It’s been so long, I forgot.

The “holiday season” (oh, how I hate that term) is over. Fake Santas ho-ho-ho-ing down fake chimneys and dropping microplastics under fake trees. The radio screaming SILENT NIGHT! between commercial breaks.

We sometimes forget that winter should be a time of slowing down, standing still, reflecting. Reflecting on what this precious thing called “life” actually is. How important our friends really are to us. To tell someone genuinely: “I love you”. To grab a moment, any moment, by its temporal tail and live in it.

I use my camera like some people use yoga or meditation. I walk with it as if time didn’t exist, trying to find my center. Each 1/60th second exposure lasts forever.
