Will We Ever Know Why Tiger Crashed?

LA County sheriff refuses to release details of the crash due to privacy concerns

Even if you’re not a golf fan, you probably know that Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a single-car crash on Feb. 23. As of this writing, Woods is recovering from serious injuries in Florida.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has announced that the cause of the crash has been determined, but detectives won’t release details due to privacy concerns for Woods. According to news reports, Villanueva said:

“A cause has been determined, the investigation has concluded. We have reached out to Tiger Woods and his personnel. There’s some privacy issues on releasing information on the investigation so we’re going to ask them if they waive the privacy and then we will be able to do a full release on all the information regarding the accident.”

Villanueva called the crash “purely an accident.” He also said:

“We have all the contents of the black box, we’ve got everything. It’s completed, signed, sealed, and delivered. However, we can’t release it without the permission of the people involved in the collision.”

Only one person was involved, and that was Tiger Woods.

I believe celebrities are entitled to privacy when things happen that have nothing to do with why they are celebrities. But they’re not entitled to special treatment.

Would the cause of this crash have been released by now if the driver hadn’t been Tiger Woods? I don’t know. I don’t know anything about California privacy laws. But I hope California authorities would be extending the same respect and consideration to an ordinary citizen that they are extending to Tiger.
