Will the Real India Please Stand Up?

An unconventional introduction

Photo by Ayo Ogunseinde on Unsplash

I have a confession —

That picture is not me, but I did have auburn hair for much of my childhood while I was going through a Ginny Weasley phase, so I found it fitting.

Phew… now that’s out of the way.

I was accepted as an ILLUMINATION writer:

So, I thought I’d share a little about myself since I love reading about other writers.

You can get to know someone through their writing style, but we often don’t get more than a Twitter-sized tidbit.

Here’s a slightly larger bit!

By day, I’m a teacher:

It’s not easy— and I do love it — when we’re not forced to change our entire careers on an hour’s notice. However, I’m not complaining because it means that I do indeed have a day job.

It’s exhausting, hilarious, and I learn a lot every single day:

  • I learn about humanity
  • I learn how to be a better teacher
  • I get to hang out with some of my favorite people
  • And… I learn things about middle-schoolers that I wasn’t warned about in teacher-prep programs but am now privy to anyway

…That’s how it works when you work with 13-year-old’s.

At 2 A.M. I’m a writer:

I fit writing in wherever I can. I have previously indie-published on Amazon, and then left to go get a “real job”. I think a lot of writers do because we’re told that there’s absolutely no way we can make a living doing this.

Clearly, some people make it, and that’s why we’re all after the gold rush.

That, and the fact that we love it.

We can’t live without it.

We can try to run, but we can’t keep it inside — it’ll claw a way out somehow.

That’s why we’re here, right?

A few things to know about me:

  • I’m incredibly sarcastic — people either get that vibe out of my writing, or they think I’m insane (I’m okay with either)
  • I’m very dramatic, but very genuine (see above)
  • I love chai-latte’s more than I should
  • I sleep very little (see above, tea addiction) — but more than Edward Cullen
  • I love going on long walks (no beaches) and listening to podcasts for inspiration

I’ve been on Medium for a little longer than a month:

  • I tried a 30-day writing challenge before I realized that’s what everyone was doing
  • The challenge went well, and now I’m just along for the ride — I want to meet other writers and to be as creative as possible
  • I have way too many notes on my phone with article ideas, and I try to write when inspiration strikes, but I know that some of them will be lost in the ether forever
  • I’m working on getting back into the book-writing space — check back to see how it goes!
