Will The Adults Who Harmed Kamila Valieva Ever Be Held Accountable?
It’s preposterous that a 15-year old failed a drug test due to a mix up with her grandfather’s heart medication.
Here’s a big steaming pile of bullshit if you’ve never seen one.
Is anyone really buying this story? That a champion skater with her whole career in front of her, is fiddling around in the medicine cabinet and mixes up her Flintstones vitamins with geriatric heart pills.
Give me a break.
Who put her up to this statement? Her parents? Her coaches? Some state apparatus? Whoever devised this whole sorry affair should be permanently run out of sport.
Oh wait, if you’re an unrepentant state sponsor of cheating and doping, the powers that be will just rename your team and you can carry on as before fucking over the careers of young athletes who aren’t even old enough to watch R-rated movies without a chaperone.
What’s really going on?
If you believe Russian media, politicians, and some athletes, you’d think that the international condemnation off Russian doping programs and their being excluded from international competitions was a Western conspiracy.
Putin and his ilk will tell you everyone is doing it, but there’s a Western cabal singling out the Russians for punishment and humiliation. That there is no state backing to the doping scandals which have been unearthed, exposed, and reported upon in Olympic sport since at least 2008. It’s all anti-Russian hysteria meant to humiliate them.
Poppycock.
Russian doping has been proven at this stage, dozens of medals have been stripped, promising careers ruined, and they still haven’t learned their lesson after running an elaborate state-backed campaign of cheating at the Sochi Olympics.
I feel terrible for Kamila and the other young skaters who get brutalized by these programs and coaches, something needs to change beyond the wrist slaps and hand waving.
Personally, I don’t think minors should be allowed in Olympic competition. Particularly in gymnastics and skating, the two sports which to me have the worst track records at protecting their athletes.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
