Will Smith, You Have a New Fan
Bisou really loves “Welcome to Earth”
You’d think that after spending all day watching birds in the garden, Bisou would be konked out on a lap while we watch a show in the evening. But, no, he has always been utterly fascinated by this strange view into a world he’s never set a paw into. He particularly loves football, and will bat at the little people running around on the screen.
But, last night, he found his new favorite show — Will Smith’s Welcome to Earth.

He was utterly intrigued by last night’s episode about an island where thousands and thousands of sea turtles, birds and sharks congregate — all lured to the same place by the power of smell.

The turtles can smell the approaching shoreline by the gases released by the coral. They swim here, en masse, to lay their eggs. But they have to do it quickly or they get scorched by the blazing hot sand. They don’t all make it back to the water and the sharks can smell the scent of death and are lured in. It was an utterly fascinating episode into a world we cannot see unless we, literally, step outside of our normal realms of perception.

Bisou really enjoyed the turtles. He seemed utterly blissed out by their tranquility.
I was a little surprised that he wasn’t scared by the next segment, which was about bears in Alaska catching salmon. I think that if I had that up-close of a view, I might be a little freaked out. But he, obviously, realizes that it is “just TV.”

You’ve probably heard about how salmon return to the place where they were hatched to lay their eggs. It’s an arduous up-river journey of great distances. And they find their way purely by smell. It’s crazy how powerful that attraction is for them. And the bears, of course, are attracted to the smell of the salmon.

I think we’ll watch another episode or two tonight to see what Bisou thinks. I predict he’ll greatly enjoy it though.

I think he might already be dreaming about what he’ll see next.
