Will Smith Got Banned At The Oscars For 10 Years And We All Should Be Scared
We’re heading down a dangerous road

It came out a few hours ago that Will Smith has been banned by the academy from attending the Oscars for the next 10 years.
10 YEARS.
I’ve been split down the middle on this whole situation. I do think Will Smith’s actions were wrong, but I didn’t think he should get arrested or charged with assault and battery like others have murmured on Twitter.
Heck, I didn’t even think he should get his Oscar taken away (thank God he didn’t).
He did a phenomenal job in King Richard. We shouldn’t use that moment to rob Will of his greatest achievement. The Williams sisters had nothing to do with that scuffle.
That’s why banning Will for 10 years is ridiculous.
Yet, I still won’t label this situation as racist like others have been doing. Chris Rock is black. This is a black-on-black incident.
If Will slapped a white man and got banned for this long, I’d question it more.
Banning him for 10 years is excessive. An ideal punishment for my liking would’ve been a 2-year suspension. I had no idea the academy would take it this far, but I understand why.
The academy isn’t doing this because they hate what Will did. Think about all of the abusers that STILL get invited to the Oscars every year.
*Cough* Harvey Weinstein *Cough* Woody Allen
The only reason why they put this harsh punishment on Will Smith is because of the Twitter backlash. It’s the same reason why Netflix and all of these other production companies halted Will Smith’s movies.
The academy wanted to beat everyone to the punch and cancel Will Smith before they got canceled.
This cancel culture shit is unbearable.
Here’s something most people don’t understand:
The silent majority are generally in the middle about situations like this.
Yet, the loudest voices you hear on Twitter are either from the far left or far right. America is so polarized now that nothing can ever be compromised.
Either you let Will Smith off the hook completely or you cancel him to hell with a 10-year ban. There’s no middle ground.
The annoying left and right warriors on Twitter are a small size of the population — smaller than you think.
This polarization is so annoying to the point where I never see a middle-ground opinion on Twitter anymore. All I see are parrots repeating the same damn points everyone on their side has said before.
You can tell that person got their opinion from someone they follow.
I wish more people could be loud and neutral online, but that’s not interesting enough for people at this point.
People want the mess. They want the two far sides to battle it out until someone wins.
It’s a fun fight to watch, but it’s damaging to our society.
It makes America a hotbed for cancel culture when this is supposed to be the country of second chances.
I’m not sure how we fix this other than ignoring the far right and left.
Final Thought
Will Smith’s punishment for his debacle with Chris Rock is way too extreme.
The Oscars made that decision off the fear of cancellation by people who thought Will should’ve gotten arrested. It’s weird. But Will Smith is already an acting legend who’s probably worth $1 billion right now.
Plus, he’s already got his Oscar.
I know Will Smith can recover from this situation one day, but I’m sick of cancel culture putting people in a spot where they need to recover in the first place.
If social media is the judge and jury we use for cancellation, everyone should be on the chopping block — period.
