Will Changing Your Consciousness Give You a Better Life?
It’s a fact that thinking positive thoughts will increase your joy.
First of all, what is consciousness? Noun: the state of being awake and aware of one’s surroundings • the awareness or perception of something by a person • the fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world.
Being awake and aware of our surroundings can be unsettling in our world’s current state. Staying unconscious through alcohol, drugs, and denial is much easier. There are millions of people currently leaning on those methods to survive.
What is the alternative, you ask? Faith, hope, love, and positive thoughts. Change your consciousness and change your life. It doesn’t take any effort to think about negative things. It takes a conscious effort to think about the good stuff. 🤔
I love my Living Bible translation of Philippians 4:8. In it, Paul instructs us:And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
One of my favorite preachers, Joyce Meyer, wrote a best-selling book, The Battlefield of the Mind. I’ve read it several times, which helped me more than I can say. She explains that we have to think about what we’re thinking about. One of her favorite quotes is, “Where the mind goes, the man follows.”
How often have you heard someone say, “I can’t help what I’m thinking?” In a sense, that’s true. Sometimes a horrible thought will pop into my mind out of nowhere. I used to wonder, where did that ugly musing come from? As I’ve grown spiritually, I’ve come to understand those evil thoughts are from Satan.
If the devil can get ahold of your mind, even for a minute, he can turn your life upside down. If he can get you to concentrate on all the terrible things going on and not the good in the world, your goose is cooked. You will be worried, anxious, scared, and even angry.

Yes, those thoughts are going to invade your consciousness. But you don’t have to permit them to stay. I’ve taken to yelling out loud, “Get behind me, Satan?” I let him know that he has no place in my life or mind. I remind him that I’m a child of God. I am loved, anointed, blessed, and to be envied.
You see, that’s the ticket. You need to replace your negative thoughts with positive ones. It doesn’t mean that we live with our heads in the sand. Bad things are happening. However, we can decide to concentrate on the positive. We can spend our time building others up, not tearing them down. We can pray for constructive changes in this crazy world.
You need to be a positive person to make others feel good. You need to share hope, faith, and love. You need to pray for good things and expect God to answer those prayers. Where two or more are gathered in prayer, there He is also. God loves doing things for His kids.
Do you need to change your consciousness? I would be crazy by now if I didn’t change mine. I don’t get wrapped up in the negative. I don’t spar on Facebook with people I believe are misguided and uninformed. What’s the point? I finally figured out what a terrible waste of time it was.
Changing my consciousness brought me peace. I hope that you will join me on a journey of positive consciousness. It will very likely be a struggle. If you start your day in prayer and ask God for guidance to keep your focus on good things, you will be more joyful. My joy comes from the Lord. How about you?
Here are some great scriptures to encourage you. Read them aloud if you start feeling low or blue; they will build you up. Get crazy and put them to memory. Build your consciousness muscles to think about all that is honorable, pure, and lovely. You will be glad you did.
Romans 15:13
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 | Always be joyful. Always keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Jesus Christ.
Nehemiah 8:10
And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
