Why Your Ability To Change Is So Important
Keep up with the powerful and rapidly changing world we live in
Change is all around us.
This pandemic has only accelerated a series of changes already underway.
Change has always influenced our lives. What’s different today is the speed of change.
Change now is not linear — instead, it’s exponential.
When change moves from linear to exponential, it can be disorienting, misunderstood, and ignored.
We can also decide to fight the change.
All of these impacts and reactions may cause us to miss what we need to do most. We need to learn from the changes and change our behaviors.
And, given the amount of change, we must learn to change exponentially as well.
Rapid and continuous change is how we will need to live going forward.
Lesson to Learn
We live in a time like no other. At no time in history has so much change affected the entire world so quickly.
It’s unprecedented.
And, because we have no reference point, it is both startling and unnerving.
However, that doesn’t mean we can ignore it. We must respond appropriately — or we will get left behind.
If we are leaders, we risk contributing to our organizations missing the opportunities in front of them.
Worst yet, our teams risk outright failure. We must increase our ability to change rapidly to be successful.
Answer for Me
I need to give up my fear of looking stupid and failing.
Success can lead us to believe we have to do what we are presently doing to succeed in the future.
However, history has shown that change is how we stay successful. When we stop learning, growing, and trying new things, we will fall behind, and ultimately fail.
I must learn more quickly. I must experiment more frequently. I must fail more often.
And then, I must regroup and try it again.
If I learn from my small failures and leverage them into more attempts, I will ultimately succeed in a new way and approach.
“Go small and go fast” has become my leadership approach.
Action
Be determined to change quickly to keep up with the exponential amount of change in our lives.
Be prepared to learn, experiment, grow, and repeat this process daily and weekly.
Do not let fear get in the way of reinventing yourself and your entire approach to leadership and success.
What got you here is not going to get you to the next level.
Rapid learning and change is the necessary success strategy in times of unprecedented levels of disruption and change.
Daily Habits
Treat each day as another chance to learn rapidly and try new things.
Be bold in your approach to seeing what is happening and trying to learn from it.
Be open to rapid change in your way of thinking and acting.
Make new connections and try new projects. Keep track of your progress.
Be humble enough to admit faults, failures, and the need for help.
