Why You Will Always Struggle
I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
But this bad news could change the way you see life forever.
And no, it’s not all doom and gloom.
Just reality.
You will always face struggle.
Let’s talk about it.
People are under the impression that as soon as they reach an arbitrary point in time, that everything will be fine.
Once you make $1 million.
Once you get the girl.
Once you move to the Bahamas.
Once you do any of these things, then you’ll finally be happy.
This is conventional wisdom.
And like most conventional wisdom, it’s complete and utter nonsense.
Now don’t get me wrong.
I’m not saying life can’t become better when you get those things.
They can.
100%
The problem lies in the expectations people set.
By assuming all problems will vanish away after you reach a specific goal, you’re setting yourself up for major disappointments.
Because problems will never go away.
Struggle will never vanish into thin air.
It doesn’t matter how much money you make, how fit you are or how many women you attract.
You will always experience struggle.
It’s simply an inseparable part of life.
Now that you know this to be true, I want you to change your thinking.
Why do you see struggle as such a bad thing?
Without it, there wouldn’t be any room to grow.
Struggle is the thing that makes the victory taste so sweet.
Isn’t it funny that when watching a film, it’s always the conflict that intrigues us the most.
We love watching a hero when they’re at their lowest.
Why?
Because we get to see them rise to the top.
We get to experience the journey with them and live vicariously as they conquer challenge after challenge.
If the conflict is what we love the most in stories, why don’t we apply the same lens to our own lives?
I find this fascinating.
People don’t see the parallels when they observe their own lives.
They don’t see that their struggle is a blessing.
It’s the opportunity for them to experience a heroic rise.
The toil is unavoidable and it’s what makes the inevitable success so satisfying.
This is literally the game of life.
And it won’t end until you die.
This may seem like a bleak lesson to internalise, but I encourage you to change your perspective.
There’s always a way to reframe what you’re going through.
Just because you’re struggling, doesn’t mean you have to suffer.
You can choose to see it as the challenge it is.
And what do we do with challenges?
We accept them and overcome them.
I love the video game analogy so much because it’s completely true.
The reason those games are so captivating isn’t because of the cool graphics or dopamine injectors.
It’s because they use the power of storytelling and capture the essence of life.
Life is a videogame because videogames are based on life.
And what happens when you finish a videogame?
You get bored and play a new one.
You don’t get that privilige with life.
Instead, you get to keep playing until you’re forced to leave the game.
This is as beautiful a blessing as you could ever hope to have.
Embrace your struggle.
And start enjoying life.
