Why You Should Write Every Day
Writing offers so many benefits that you can’t afford to miss them
No matter how busy you are in life, you can still find time to write — and do it every day. When you think of writing as a de-stressing daily activity that can help your mind, you’ll likely want to stick with it.
Here are the benefits of writing every day:
You stretch your writing muscle by writing every day
Just like you exercise and work on your body to get muscles, by writing you also strengthen muscles in your brain. Every time you practice writing, you’re giving your brain a great workout.
With that said, it’s better to write a little bit each day — it could be as little as 30 minutes as opposed to writing for hours once or twice a week. Consistency is the key here.
Writing is a skill, just like any other, so the only way to get better with writing it is to write. And the more you write, the better you become, it’s that simple.
Writing is an active thought process
When you write, you engage in an active and creative thought process. You are putting your creativity to test. It is also a form of mental stimulation because you force your brain to work when you write. In short, you are making yourself smarter.
Writing is therapy
Did you know that writing is liberating to your mind? When you write, you let out your thoughts and emotions, and you put them into words. When you write, you feel as if you’ve unleashed your inner self. It is cathartic by way of expressing your inner feelings. You give the emotions that have built inside of you a chance to escape.
Writing also helps you make a connection between your mind and body. As Elizabeth Sullivan, a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Francisco points out: “When you use your hands to pen or type something directly from your brain, you are creating a powerful connection between your inner experience and your body’s movement out in the world.”
You don’t have to write lengthy posts or essays. It can be a simple journal writing though which you express what is on your mind.
So any time you feel something urgent on your mind that you want to share — just write it. Don’t be afraid to express yourself, and make it a priority to write a little bit of something every day.
