Why You Should Support Young Entrepreneurs

Never pass up an opportunity to buy lemonade or anything being sold by kids

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s the little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” — Desmond Tutu

Recently, as we were driving around our neighborhood, we passed by a young boy holding up a lemonade for sale sign on the side of the road.

He looked to be about eight-years-old and was sitting under the shadow of an umbrella to protect himself from the sweltering heat on a hot summer day.

We were impressed with his dedication. Anyone who can sit for hours in the hot sun advertising and selling lemonade deserves a pat on the back.

We decided we would return later after running an errand to buy lemonade. However, it slipped our minds on our way home.

Fortunately, we could return to the area the next day to find the kid still there. He pointed us in the direction of a lemonade stand a bit past him.

Two other boys were selling ice-cold homemade lemonade, pink lemonade, chocolate chip cookies, and m and m’s. They were raising money for their favorite charity.

We purchased several beverages and treats, intentionally leaving spare change as a tip for them. We were impressed by their honesty when one of the boys asked us if we wanted our change back.

We declined, thanked them, and left feeling good to see their little faces light up with joy and excitement.

Final Thoughts

Lemonade stands are a quintessential summer experience. They can also teach kids about business, marketing, and money.

The next time you see a neighborhood lemonade stand, stop by and buy a cup. It will make the kids happy and give them a sense of pride and accomplishment.

In turn, it will make you feel good to help the kids realize their goals.

It is such a simple way to pay it forward.

We can make the world a better place when we spread the ripple.
