Are You Sitting In Your Own Filth?
Why You Should Stop Taking Baths
Stop sitting in dirty bathwater as it’s dirty.

If you’re looking for efficiency, take a shower instead of a bath. On leisurely weekends and you just want to chill, sure, a bath may be in order. For now, let’s chat about why I’m recommending showers over baths.
By taking a shower, you reduce the energy you use for bathing but only if you take short showers instead of baths. It matters because bathing accounts for more than half of the hot water use in homes. So if you’re looking to save money and be more efficient, it is a great place to start.
There’s no half-singing in the shower, you’re either a rock star or an opera diva.

Here’s a not so fun fact. When you bathe, you can use up to 70 gallons of water. On the other hand, a five-minute shower with a two-gallon-per-minute shower head uses only 10 gallons. That is, of course, unless you take very, very long showers or have an older, inefficient shower head. For the most part, showers will almost always use less water and energy than baths. After all, the intended purpose is to get you clean, so why not do it in the most efficient and cost-effective way?
This next part may be a bit gross for some but hear me out first. The other benefit to taking a shower is you can pee in the shower. I know. Some swear they never would and that’s okay. By doing so, it’s safe for the most part and environmentally friendly as you’re saving on a toilet flush as well as some toilet paper.
Think of it this way. You came in from the beach or exercising and are sweaty and perhaps a bit muddy. Do you think that is any worse than a bit of pee? Yes, indeed, a quick rinse of the tub is in order but you’re doing that anyway as you rid yourself of any soap suds.
People who claim that they don’t pee in the shower can’t be trusted.

I remember as a kid coming inside from playing all day. My mother would immediately require me to take a bath. Within a relatively short period, the previously clean and clear bathwater was now a funky shade of gray. And I’m sitting it in rinsing the soap off of my body with dirty water. It really doesn’t make any sense.
For those who like a good leisurely soak in the tub, consider this. Take a quick shower first to rid yourself of any scum. Then feel free to sit and soak as long as you’d like knowing that, for the most part, you’re sitting in relatively clean bathwater.

One of the things I learned from my European friends is that, for the most part, they all have a detachable shower head. One that is connected to a long hose so that you can direct a stream of clean water on any body part that needs ridding of soap or dirt. At first, I didn’t see the benefit as why not stand under a stationary shower head and let the water run down your body. However, with the detachable shower head, I can more efficiently direct water flow to my under regions for a more effective and quicker rinsing.
Final Consideration
We all seem to lead a busier life than we’d like, so there’s no point in wasting time if there’s a more optional way to do something. Now, I’m not an anti-bather, but I do consider myself to be pro-shower. At the risk of outing myself, I have been known to take the occasional Sunday Soak in the bathtub. But, for both time and energy efficiency, a shower is decidedly best. Plus, there’s the additional benefit of relieving a full bladder, but only if you’re so inclined. Just something to think about next time you step into the bathroom to get clean.
