Why You Should Start Writing in “Better” Publication
I have been writing on this platform for a year and a half. I have spent a lot of this year thinking about expanding my reach to get more readers engaged with the type of content I produce.
Ofcourse, one of the most popularised ways to do this is by creating a publication. That way, you can build a community of readers that support your content and interact with other writers in your space.
Publications have also helped me in my own journey as a writer on this platform. Without the work of the many publications here, I would not be where I am today. Thanks to the many hour's editors put into giving me feedback and reviewing my work, I have had the opportunity to grow and get better.
As a writer, I value each writer on this platform regardless of why they write. It may be to raise awareness, make money or create a lead. Whatever the reason, I value writers here because I know what it takes to be committed to the craft and challenging task of writing.
That is why I am passionate about helping and supporting writers in my field. Although I love what publications have to offer, I did not believe it gave me the flexibility I wanted to really make the publication I wanted.
The current model for a publication allows you to:
- Create your own customisable layout for your publication
- Support multiple contributors and editors
- Send newsletters
- Review stats
All these features are mandatory to build a community of readers and writers with similar interests. However, one of the specific pain points I had around running my own publication was the lack of ability to monetise further.
For writers that are stretched for time, like me, it was hard to justify creating a publication of high quality without the ability to monetise further. I wanted to build a publication that brought readers and writers of a specific background together to produce and consume content that was high-quality.
However, I felt that the work and time needed to build this community would come at a great cost. So, I wanted to generate more wealth for writers and readers on this platform whilst building a community.
So, although I will not stop writing on this platform, I wanted to share the publication I am creating off this platform. By using Ghost, I have created a new publication called, “Better Publication”. And thanks to the flexibility Ghost has offered me, I believe I have built a publication that both readers and writers can benefit from.
What is Better Publication?
Better is a publication where readers can enhance their knowledge on leadership, strategy and entrepreneurship, as well as other related topics to build better organisations for the future.
We believe in empowering our future leaders and business owners with the best knowledge to ensure they can solve the problems of the future. Therefore, we are constantly looking for knowledgeable individuals who can inspire the next generation of leaders.
We still have a relatively small team and have only just launched. The topics that we are hoping to publish on are:
- Leadership
- Innovation
- Entrepreneurship
- Economics
- Organisational Culture
- Career Advice
- Behavioural Science
With the help of writers and readers who suit our target audience, we hope to build a community that benefits both the readers and writers. You can learn more about the publication here.
How You Can Benefit
I wanted to create a new model of publication within the creator economy. To do this, I thought about some of the things I was struggling with as a writer and reader.
As a writer, I realised that most of my income was based on how well my articles did. Although this is great because it lets me know what type of articles people like to read, it makes me dependent on so many other things that are outside of the realm of writing to increase my earnings.
Things like:
- Marketing my articles
- SEO
- Algorithms for reach
All play a significant role in increasing my per article earnings but have nothing to do with writing. And if you want to make money from your writing, these things will always be there and must be done.
Unfortunately, they do not guarantee a set amount of money falling into your account every month, and this leads to instability. This platform has tried tackling this with the affiliate program. That way, writers know they will get a set amount of money every month from their affiliates.
I like this model, and I believe it is the key to giving writers the ability to focus on the quality and enjoyment of writing without worrying about all the other stuff.
However, I think people are more willing to be a part of affiliate programs when they are passionate and care about the community they are part of. Unfortunately, many writers are beginning to fall out of love with this platform for various reasons.
So, most writers put their affiliate link at the bottom of their article with hopes that a random non-member will click on it. As a result, not many are reaping the rewards they could be.
By signing up for Better publication, you will have the option of two affiliate programs:
Both of these affiliate programs benefit readers and writers on the publication that cares about the community and the work that we do.
In short, the affiliate learners are readers that are engaged and advocates of our work. By referring readers, they gain 40% of their monthly subscription.
The affiliate writers are writers that contribute to the publication at least three times a month. By referring readers, they gain 50% of their monthly subscription.
Both affiliate learners and writers pay a monthly fee to be part of the community but get added benefits. Readers of the publication pay a small fee of $2.99 per month to gain access to all the articles and a newsletter.
Affiliates pay slightly more but get additional benefits and support to grow their online presence and number of referrals to start earning a stable amount of money per month. Not to mention, affiliates act as board members that help guide the publication to become better.
Conclusion
I want to expand Better publication into a publishing company that is multifaceted. I want writers and readers in the publication who are passionate about the business world and transforming it for the better. By having this passion, we can build a strong community of people that support each other.
We are still in our early days and do not have many publication users. Therefore, we are looking for affiliate writers to join our team. We want seasoned writers in the business field to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.

We are also looking for affiliate learners. If you are a reader who believes they can benefit from any of the categories our publication covers, please do subscribe as an affiliate learner.
The first 100 readers on the platform will be put onto our affiliate program and can start using their links to sign others up right away. Not to mention, you will be added to the slack community to get tips on how to promote.

Finally, we would love to have any support possible, even if it is just feedback. We want to create a publication where everyone feels welcome to contribute and benefit from the community they are a part of.
