Why You Should Protect Your Treasure Now

You have a valuable treasure and it is your time

As humans, we differ on a lot of things and mostly disagree on many issues, yet if there is one thing that we can’t beg to differ in its importance, then it should definitely be our valuable time. Time is the only true treasure you own in this world and you should protect it no matter at what stage you are in life. Don’t let anyone or anything decide for you how you are supposed to spend it.

Having said that, we all face challenges every day regarding how we spend our time, especially in the last few years with the emergence and the popularity of so many social media platforms. Surely without a doubt, there are some benefits by using these platforms, but what is shocking is the recent survey published in august 2019 by statista.com.

The bad news

According to the results of the survey, the average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide is 136 minutes per day. This is more than 2 hours a day and can be converted roughly to more than 30 days in a year which in that case means you are spending one whole month every year in just browsing social media alone.

Imagine what can you do or achieve in one month or in other words 720 hours. Let us face it, is that really how we want to spend our treasure? The answer is and should be definitely no. But the real question here is how can we protect our treasure from these social media platforms?

The answer to this question is may not be that simple, but let us try to figure out how best we can spend our treasure.

First the good news

According to another survey published in pewresearch.org website shows that the majority of social media users say it would not be difficult to give up these platforms. I have personally tried many times to quit the most addictive one among these social media platforms, Facebook.

After wasting a lot of my time in the last couple of years. I finally decided to stop using Facebook once for all and even posted my farewell message to friends and family in the platform back in 2018.

What is the point of sharing this with you? The answer is very simple. If you are able to try and succeed in staying away from these social platforms for even a few days, believe me, you can also stay from them forever.

By the way, there are people who make use of it properly instead of scrolling down hours endlessly like I use to do, if you are from those few, then you are exempted from this advice, but for those majority like me, I sincerely suggest to rethink about using social media.

Is this an issue being faced by you and me only? Well, if you Google now “How to quit social media?” The number of results you get will certainly overwhelm you and that is just an example of how serious this issue is.

What is the solution then?

Well, to be honest with you, quitting social media is harder than said, but with sincere determination and finding alternatives, it can be done. Back in 2018 when I decided to become serious about reading books, there was only a question in my mind: Where will you get the time to read from?

This question really made me realize what is important and what is not. Obviously using social media fell to the unimportant list; therefore it was supposed to make the way for something far much better and useful. I also joined a local university to study on weekends which made me even busier and less interested in social media especially Facebook.

I am sure you have one or two things in your mind that you want to do or learn but you were always telling yourself that you don’t have time. Well, let me tell you that this moment is the right time to begin everything you always desired to do.

Learning new skills or making new habits like reading and writing or even joining a gym could be your solution, but It is always you who will decide upon your priorities

In the end

Our time is very precious; let us make sure we spend it with the right things and the right people. What is gone is gone, don’t regret it. But let us try to salvage what is left of our treasure.

You have to plan your time greatly and allocate the best part of it to your family simply because even if you succeed in all other aspects of life be it career-wise or financially, but still fail to spend the best time with your family, then I am pleased to inform you that you have achieved nothing, meaning you lost the most important thing anyone could have. Family is everything we fight and struggle for, therefore family comes first, then the rest follows.

Thank you for your precious time.
