Why you Should Cover Several Topics as a Writer

And how this can help your blog

As a writer, one of the biggest challenges that I had every day is to find an idea to write about. Even there are a lot of themes we can write, a lot of people prefer just to talk about something specific, maybe for the experience they have, because they feel comfortable talking about it, or because they readers like to read a specific topic.

In the beginning, I only wrote about travel, I found an audience that also loves to travel and I was comfortable talking about it, but then I figured out that I can also write about other topics that I knew and I found that doing that was very good for my personal career as a writer.

When I started doing that, I discovered that there are many benefits of writing about all the things I know and like, these are some of the things that I gained by doing that.

My Audience Grew

Many people only talk about something specific because they already have an audience that follows them for that reason, and they may believe that perhaps talking about another topic can ruin the experience of the users that they already have and may unfollow them because they dont like them now, but this is totally false.

First, because if you have a lot of followers who like your work, they will probably read you even if it is something new for them, just because they like the way you write. Many people follow an author not because of what they write, but because of how they write, and if you are going to talk about other topics apart from the reason why they followed you, they will not have to go elsewhere to find the information they already have with you.

In addition, if they are not interested in the topic you are going to talking about, and they really follow you because they like your work, they just will not read that post and will wait until the next relevant article, there is no reason why they should suddenly hate you.

However, if you start talking about other topics that other people may be interested in, maybe now they will start to follow you more. I know many people who have started to follow me because of a random topic that I have written then because of the great ideas that I had previously done.

And it makes sense, if you have a large audience for a specific topic and also covers other topics, you will get another type of audience apart from the one you already have. You can also know that so many readers would have a specific topic, perhaps what you already write does not have as many views as what you have not yet wanted to write out of fear.

I Improved my Writing Skills

Something that I have realized since I started writing professionally, is that depending on the audience and the topic that you are going to speak, there are different forms of writing. For example, a programmer article is different from other types of blogs, there are certain technical rules that they use that probably someone that writes for personal growth doesn’t need.

From programmers publications, I learned how I should format some pieces of codes and how I should write for the audience, with a proper technical language. For example, variable names, file paths, URLs, directory names, class names, and values should be formatted like this.

But from personal growth publications, I learned that personal experiences and feelings are more important for the reader. Because if you want people to learn from you on a personal level, you will need more than just facts, than on technology probably is enough. So, to inspire readers from different areas, you need different ways of speaking.

I learned those writing experiences by covering more than one topic as a writer, and that possibly someone who only writes about one topic did not know. You already know how to be the best on the topic you have the experience, and depending on the level, you probably will not learn more because you already know how to do it to gain the views.

More Topics Means More Traffic

When I have more traffic, I have more money. Having more topics to talk about helped me to have more content on my blog, therefore, I had more people interested in entering and reading my content. Having the opportunity to expand your knowledge to other areas gives you the ability to learn about others and grow your portfolio.

I know writers who can’t write every day because they can’t find anything educational to talk about, but the reality is that readers are not always looking to learn, sometimes they just want to entertain themselves. And as human beings, we have the ability to talk about anything with someone else, so you can find different things to talk about with your audience.

Something that I do when the week begins is to divide the days depending on the topic that I am going to talk about, so every day I have a different article to publish.

If you don’t feel comfortable talking several topics on your blog, there are other pages where you can develop your other themes, I know great writers who share their personal experiences in other publications, and have their own publication to talk about their professional articles. So looking for other places to share your experiences gives you the opportunity to get to know other pages in which to earn different incomes stream.

As human beings, we like different things, eating sweets, watching television, sleeping in the afternoon, or exercising. So as writers, we should be able to write on more than one specific topic, because our goal is to share our feelings, express our opinions, and teach others, so if you can do it in more than one area, you can help more than one person.
