The unexpected hero. Why we respect Volodymyr Zelenskyy
It’s not just the way he is handling the Ukrainian War but his powerful lessons in humanity

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy a Ukrainian politician, former actor, and comedian is the sixth and current president of Ukraine.
Before this Ukraine crisis, many of us barely knew him. Nor did we know the exact location of Ukraine on the map.
But in these last few weeks, Zelenskyy has emerged as the Leader we have all come to respect. An unexpected hero of Ukraine.
Why?
Because Zelenskyy is shining a mirror on humanity’s shortfalls. Everyday.
A comedian turned President; with no past political experience, he is standing up for his country more valiantly and resolutely than any seasoned political leader of our times.
“The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.” — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
He has shown that an average person awakened to their mission is powerful.
Holding steadfast by his people at a time when the rest of the world stands helpless.
Yes, we have showered him with reverberating standing-ovations at the congressional sessions in Canada and USA, signed sanctions against Russia, and sent aid and ammunitions but we have sorely failed to meet his basic demand for peace.
In the simplest words, he is requesting for the most humane need of the hour — a humanitarian no-fly-zone over Ukraine to save our civilians.
How incapable we are, in this day and time, despite all the treaties, to protect and safeguard his small but brave country.
He is warning us that if his country isn’t safe, neither are the other nations. It’s just a matter of time before Ukraine's plight becomes a sordid example for other repressive despots to ape.
He is teaching us through his actions, that we all have a choice; to fight or flee under pressure. We are witnessing his choice of walking the toughest path, gracefully and with honor.
His lack of pretense and ego is evident in his urgent pleas for the safety of the women and children in his country. He extends the sentiment to the mothers of Russian soldiers, urging them to recall their sons and stop this war.
A person with a beautiful family of his own, he deeply respects the sanctity of family life. Unlike the monstrous egoism displayed by Putin, Zelenskyy is pleading for world peace.
They say a happy man rarely wages war with other humans. It’s the fury within that stimulates the war outside. This war is not a geopolitical fight. It’s the barbaric ego of one man who has lost his humanity. Waging a war at the cost of everything; including his own country’s well-being. This is Putin’s War.
While Putin sits comically socially distant from his Staff and Advisors, Zelenskyy stands shoulder-to-shoulder with his Ukrainian soldiers.
For this and more, the world respects President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
We all wish for this nonsensical war to end. Regardless of when that happens, Zelenskyy has already won this war by showing what it truly means to be human.
May we all learn a lesson in integrity and bravery from this “New Age Mahatma of Ukraine”
“I would never want Ukraine to be a piece on the map, on the chessboard of big global players, so that someone could toss us around, use us as cover, as part of some bargain.” — Volodymyr Zelensky
