Why we love our Thermomix

The Thermomix from Vorwerk has also been available on the US market for some time. The kitchen device described as the “German iPhone” is very popular in Germany. The Americans criticize, however, the exceptionally high price of 1300 dollars. I explain in this article why my wife and I still can’t do without it.

First of all: the manufacturer of this device does not pay me. Neither my wife nor I have any connections to Vorwerk, and the article does not contain any affiliate links. I’m just thrilled with the device and want to explain why.

When the Thermomix was launched in the USA, many experts tested it immediately. Everyone praised the design, functionality, and versatility of the device.

But almost all testers like Brian Koerber, Joe Ray or Adi Robertson are extremely annoyed by the price of 1300 dollars.

The unanimous opinion of the experts: The Thermomix is a luxury appliance for wealthy people who cannot cook, and it only takes up space in the kitchen.

I was original of the same opinion, but since my wife persuaded me to buy it, I can no longer imagine cooking traditionally.

What is the Thermomix?

The Thermomix is a multifunctional food processor. It mainly consists of a mixing bowl in which ingredients can be crushed, stirred, and heated.

A powerful motor ensures that you can even produce icing sugar, flour, and minced meat yourself in a matter of seconds.

But you can not only crush ingredients in the mixing bowl, but you can also cook them in it. In addition to the mixing bowl, a cooking insert and a steam attachment are also included in the scope of delivery.

In this way, it is possible to prepare several courses of a meal at the same time. For example, while a sauce is boiling up in the pot, rice can be cooked simultaneously in the cooking insert and vegetables, fish, or meat can be prepared around the steamer.

Roasting is only possible in the latest model. We have the predecessor model, which is not yet capable of roasting. However, we have never seen a disadvantage in it. If something needs to be fried, we use a pan.

The appliance is connected to the Internet and can access about 20,000 recipes. If one of these recipes is selected, the Thermomix guides the user through the entire process via a display.

Step by step, the ingredients to be added to the pot or one of the inserts are specified. A scale integrated into the device ensures that the correct amount of ingredients is always added.

The intensity of the comminution of the individual ingredients is pre-programmed, as are the cooking times and temperatures. This ensures that the food is always cooked exactly as the recipe requires.

To get a complete impression of Thermomix, take a look at the manufacturer’s website:

The advantages of the Thermomix

1. time-saving

First of all, it saves a lot of time if you don’t have to cut all the ingredients by hand. The Thermomix does this in seconds.

But a standard food processor naturally does cut and chop as well. That alone would not be an argument for the Thermomix. The device would actually be too expensive for that.

But the real time savings are evident when cooking.

If I conventionally cook a meal, I stand in the kitchen during the entire preparation time. I have to stir the sauce or soup over and over again, keep an eye on the cooking point of the meat, turn things around that stew in the pan — in short: I have to take care of everything all the time.

The Thermomix doesn’t shorten cooking times, but it frees me from the need to stand by the pots all the time while cooking.

Once the cooking process has started, the Theromix takes over the constant stirring.

If a stew has to cook for thirty minutes before the next step follows, I can sit in the living room and read, hang up the laundry, or do other things during these thirty minutes.

2. we now cook daily

The time saved means that it is now much easier for us to cook fresh every day. We used to order a pizza in the evening because we didn’t have the strength or time to spend more than an hour in the kitchen.

Today we cook almost every day. The Thermomix has given us back our closing time.

Instead of standing at the stove, we now sit on the couch and wait until the food is ready.

We don’t have any more excuses not to cook.

3. full control over the ingredients

Since we have the Thermomix, we not only cook with it but also produce individual ingredients ourselves.

Whether gratin cheese, parmesan cheese for sprinkling, or ketchup — everything can easily be made by yourself with the Thermomix from natural ingredients.

If, for example, you buy gratin cheese in a supermarket, numerous additives are added to the cheese to prevent it from clumping, losing its color, or spoiling prematurely.

With the Thermomix, we buy a piece of fresh cheese and process it into gratin cheese. Freshly prepared it does not need any additives

The same applies to ketchup, mayonnaise, grill sauces, salads, dressings, and a hundred other ingredients.

Also, we avoid the sugar added everywhere by the industry by not using processed foodstuffs.

Industrially processed foods are generally healthier than natural foods.

The only disadvantage of Thermomix

You can’t buy it at the store.

Vorwerk, the company that manufactures the Thermomix, relies entirely on direct sales.

So if you want to buy a Thermomix, you have to invite a Vorwerk sales partner to your home or go to a demonstration that takes place in the home of a friend or acquaintance.

An advantage of this form of sales is that you get a good overview of the possibilities of the device during the demonstrations. In shops, it would hardly be possible to present the Thermomix in such a way that all functions are immediately understood.

But my wife and I managed to buy a Thermomix without letting a representative into our house or going to a demonstration ourselves. Instead, we asked a friend who had a presentation in her home to bring us an order form.

In this way, the purchase was assigned to a demonstration date, and everyone was happy.
