Why Those Who Believe Suffer The Most

The paradox of faith

(Photo: Pheladi Shai)

My life has gotten 10x times harder ever since I decided to walk with God.

Life was much easier before that. People loved and supported me. The world loved my work. In all the places I worked, I was able to achieve success much more easily. My articles performed much better than they do now.

It is difficult to see how few people are interested in hearing about God. What is even more difficult to understand is why those who choose to walk with God when the world has turned its face away from God face so many challenges and obstacles. It seems unfair that something as important and meaningful comes with such difficulties, while those who do not know God seem to breeze through life with ease.

I just don’t understand.

My life has gotten 10x times harder ever since I decided to walk with God.

So I went before God, looking for some answers:

“Why God? Why do you call people to you only to give them such a painful life? Why won’t you heal our pain? When the world turns its back on me for doing your work, why won't you bless me?”

As I sought guidance, I heard a gentle whisper:

“The struggle you’re facing now is not just about your life here on Earth, but about your eternity. Yet if it’s too much to bear, I offer you a choice. You can walk away from me and return to the world, and your troubles will fade away. Your friends will embrace you, and your work will be easily recognized. But if you walk away and remove my name from your vocabulary, you will miss out on the greatest reward of all: spending eternity with me. I know your suffering, but think about the story you will tell if I do not take away your suffering. If you can show the world that you can be patient in your suffering here on earth because you know you will spend eternity with no suffering. Choose wisely and hold on a little longer and when you discover yourself finding true strength because of your weakness, and when you do great things in God’s name in spite of your pain and suffering, the impact will last for generations. And remember: when you pass from the earth and you meet God in heaven, your suffering will be behind you. You will leap like a deer and your reward will be great.”

“Think about the story you will tell if I do not take away your suffering. If you can show the world that you can be patient in your suffering here on earth because you know you will spend eternity with no suffering.”

I was given a choice. Walk away from God and live life here on earth with no suffering or walk with God, suffer a little, and spend eternity with no suffering.

A very tough choice.

Despite the promise of worldly success and a life of no suffering, I knew that walking away from God would ultimately leave me empty and unfulfilled, so I made my choice.

I choose to suffer now for eternity with no suffering.

This promise of an eternal afterlife without suffering is worth every suffering I must endure in this life.

Walking with God is difficult. That’s for sure, but it’s important to remember that faith is not meant to shield us from pain and suffering. In fact, it’s often through our hardships that we grow and develop a deeper understanding of ourselves.

As we continue to walk with God, we may experience setbacks and challenges that seem insurmountable. This is the paradox of faith, but through our faith and trust in God, we can find the strength to overcome any obstacle. And in doing so, we may even inspire others to seek a relationship with God and discover the peace and purpose that comes with it.

So, though it may be difficult to believe, we can take solace in the knowledge that our struggles are not in vain.

While it’s true that my life was easier before, my relationship with God has brought a deeper sense of meaning and purpose to my life. Though I may not always receive the same level of acceptance or success in my work as I once did, I know that I’m staying true to my beliefs and values. And while my articles may not always attract the same level of love and attention as they once did, I know that I’m sharing a message that truly matters.

This promise of an eternal afterlife without suffering is worth every suffering I must endure in this life.
