Why This Guy Uploads Unsexy Math Lectures on Pornhub (Instead of Sex Videos)
And how he earns $270,000 per year by doing so.
Will you visit Pornhub to learn calculus?
Of course, not. Am I kidding!!?
But if you encounter a thumbnail on Pornhub where a guy (fully-clothed) explaining something in front of a green board with chalks in hand, most probably you will stop for a moment and click on that video.
Why? Because you (like all other human beings) are curious by nature.
This is exactly what Chang Hsu, a Taiwanese math teacher, wanted when he started uploading his math videos on Pornhub, a popular pornography site, in May 2020.
His intention was to attract potential students.
The rest is history.
Chang Hsu lives in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.
Having a master’s degree in Mathematics, he has taught in cram schools in Taiwan for more than 15 years. But when his former staff took over his tutoring job during the pandemic, Chang decided to teach maths online, especially on YouTube, like many others.
Soon, he noticed that YouTube is a very competitive place for online teachers. And if he doesn’t do something that set him apart from other teachers, there will be no success for him.
So, he kept thinking and thinking. Then one day an insane idea visited his mind.
“I asked myself where to find my target students, say college boys, and the answer popped out: adult video platforms,” Chang said.
“Since very few people teach math on adult video platforms, and since there are so many people who watch videos on them, I thought that if I uploaded my videos there, a lot of people would see them,” he further explained in an interview with Mel Magazine.
Chang started sharing his math videos on Pornhub in May 2020 under the name changhsumath666.
From the start, he knew people would laugh to see math lectures on an adult site like Pornhub. But he saw it as a marketing strategy to attract more eyeballs.
“People may not be interested in my videos, but they’ll all know there’s a teacher who teaches calculus on an adult video platform,” he revealed.
Though Chang got a few negative comments for posting educational videos on Pornhub, most of the responses he has received so far are positive.
Many students found his videos helpful and left inspiring remarks like this: “Thanks, I needed this for my math finals.” And there was never a question about his teaching style or strategies.
He helped and still is helping lots of students to pass their math exams.
Chang is now a verified performer on Pornhub with around 9.2K subscribers and 315 videos. He has an interesting tagline — “Play Hard, Study Hard.”
You’ll find him explaining mostly calculus and sometimes algebra in his native language, Mandarin. His subscribers spread between 18–34 years of age, primarily men living in Taiwan, Mainland China, and Japan.
So far, his videos got 2.2 million views on Pornhub.
Well, I know that’s not so impressive. But remember, no one goes to an adult site to watch 40-minute long math lectures. Yet many students who later joined his courses first came to know about him through Pornhub.
The number is growing each day.
“The online-teaching market is highly competitive, and I can now attract 1,000 students each year, compared with an average of a few hundred for a calculus tutor,” Chang explained. “Many students who need a teacher who can teach math know me through Pornhub, and some of them buy my course,”
As you can assume, Chang tried to share his math videos on other adult platforms (such as XVideos and XNXX), but they refused as they don’t allow non-adult content. So, Chang still shares his math lectures on Pornhub as it has no such restrictions.
Now, can you guess how much Chang Hsu earns annually?
Thanks to his genius (or weird!) marketing strategy, he now earns more than $2,70,000 a year from online courses and videos on other platforms.
But don’t get this wrong.
Chang never wanted to teach maths solely on a porn site. He used it as a tool to reach more people.
In his words, “I didn’t want to teach math on Pornhub. I wanted to let the world know that I’m a teacher from Taiwan who can teach calculus well.”
Apart from Pornhub, he also teaches on other online platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. And he is determined to popularise math in the digital world.
Chang’s story is quite unique and incredible, isn’t it?
It’s also a powerful example of out-of-the-box thinking. Moreover, it tells you to trust your gut feeling over the what-people-will-think mindset.
