Why That Line Between Courageous & Cowardice Isn’t as Thick as You Think

You will be surprised to know the difference between the two is only a very thin and manageable line

Photo by Gioele Fazzeri on Unsplash

At first glance, the two may appear enormously different, both residing on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum, but let me invite you in, take a closer look to see if what you think those differences are, is nothing more than a psychological smokescreen.

Courageous is the quality of being brave: face danger, difficulty, uncertainty, or pain without being overcome by fear. Cowardice is a lack of courage: absence of courage, cowardly behavior.

The definitions say they’re on both ends of the spectrum but… Follow me on this as I present a different angle.

Of course, I’m not saying that you should rewrite the dictionary or disbelieve in the word meanings. I am, however, attempting to point out that the space in between the two goes deeper than the definitions themselves.

Courageous & Cowardice, believe it or not, actually stand side by side. Both face the fears of the unknown, failure, rejection, or humiliation…

— Their feet are standing at the same cliff ledge

— Their hands-on the same unopened door knob

The Fear Part — Fear is Only an Obstacle of the Mind.

—Lack the foreknowledge of outcome

— Tariffed with the thoughts of failure

But…

COWARDICE chooses to let the Excuses of Failure hold them back — BECAUSE of FEAR —

COURAGEOUS chooses to let Reasons for Success push them forward — DESPITE FEAR —

— &, By the way, both have the same capacity for choice

Here’s a thought…

The definition doesn’t separate one from the other, but rather, the choice of action does, and action is based on a particular focus.

The focus on either success or failure is what determines the next step, So…

— CHANGE the Focus…

— to CHANGE the Action…

— to CHANGE the Outcome!

I’ll leave you with this;

If you tend to choose to back down because of fear, then choose to do so in the arena of fearing regret or the negative effects it will have in your life that will result from not choosing a different action.

— FEAR ITSELF IS NOT REAL —

It’s mostly made up of the negative conditioning in your mind, so…

  • Start tweaking your thinking
  • Make fear your new play toy
  • Life Is meant to live, take some risks

& Drop the teddy bear off at the nearest safe space with a goodbye note.
