Why Successful Entrepreneurs Hustle Slowly!

I want to help you become a better version of yourself so I’m going to invite you to read these instructions so you can feel what it’s like to make a tiny improvement that may just change your life. In a minute you’re going to be closing your eyes, relaxing your shoulders and taking a nice big inhale followed by an even longer exhale. Repeat the process 5 times for good measure. Ok go ahead and do it and then keep reading.

Feeling Good

It feels good doesn’t it? When we just take a moment to stop and breathe we send a subconscious message to the universe that we are taking care of ourselves and that we respect ourselves. But there is also something else, something much deeper that happens when we purposefully stop and breathe.

When we consciously disconnect from everything that we are physically and mentally engaged in and we apply the brakes to everything it’s really like hitting the reset button.

Boom: Just for a nano second the old stuff gets deleted and a fresh page awaits. Deleting all the crazy stuff that’s going on for just a few seconds introduces a pattern interrupt and can create a little space for a fresh thought. Fresh thoughts are the elixir of life because without them we can not grow or change. The moment we hit the reset we can choose to have new thoughts or continue with all the old ones. The point is we get to choose.

Successful entrepreneurs know this, which is why they always hustle slowly and schedule time for review. They take time to stop what they are doing. They calmly check to see what is working and what isn’t. They think, evaluate and adjust. Jack Dorsey, creator of Twitter is definitely a person who hustles slowly. He’s a big fan of taking time out to calm his mind and meditate each day. For him it is an essential part of his life and it allows him to be a high achiever and successfully run his multi billion dollar empire.

Time To Think

Taking time out to think and review shouldn’t be something that’s reserved for the rich and famous or something for business owners. Instead, thinking and review time should be regarded as an essential tool in our lives to help us achieve any of our desired goals. No matter how big or small from losing a couple of kilos to creating a successful side hustle thought time should be scheduled into the equation. You have a warm up and cool down on your exercise apps we also need a warm up and cool down on our goal setting.

So why don’t we do it?

Desperation

The problem is when we are desperate to reach our goals we often get so caught up trying to reach them at any cost that we just forget or don’t plan to take time out and really think about what is happening.

It’s especially hard to do when you are surrounded by others who have the same goals as you and are hell bent on success. When you’re in such a group it’s easy to get carried along in the push for success.

I was reminded of this just the other day. I am a teacherpreneur and I belong to a facebook group of other teacherpreneurs. We have all done the same training and we all have the same goal: To have a successful teaching business. It can be a very supportive environment but that also makes it very driven and competitive because we are all encouraged to hustle harder and longer.

A post from a really disgruntled teacherpreneur caught my eye and made me stop and think. I realised she had some valid points, we were all hustling harder but our results weren’t improving. So surely this was evidence that the system was broken. It made me stop and think. I realised I hadn’t taken the time to really review my results or my systems.

She was right the system was broken.

I had allowed myself to get swept along with the crowd and hadn’t taken the proper time to stop and evaluate what was really going on.

For me this failure to review isn’t too catastrophic as I am able to stop now and make a very much needed course correction. Not to mention learn from my mistake and schedule in some review time.

Taking time to hustle slowly can seem counterintuitive but in the long run it will actually get you to your destination faster which is why it’s a habit of successful entrepreneurs.
