Why Start-Up Stories Are So Interesting.
The story of starting up either a band, company, studio, political movement, or sports team. The art of starting something new is as intoxicating as starting a new romance.
Eminence levels of sacrifices, undeniable passion, sleeping under your desk, working mad into the early hours of the morning, and voiding all sense of personal care or structure. The montage of typing long in the night, overlooking papers, drinking coffee looking over a nighttime cityscape.
The core action scenes of stories about starting a company or a venture.
Either when it comes to something as small as writing a book or as big as talking with an investor. The first steps are the sexiest steps, even if it’s unremarkable. But yet in a way nostalgic of a time of innocents and unrelenting optimism.
It's a harder subject to capture, modern-day building is done behind a laptop rather than something more cinematic. But neither are the starting moments of a steamy romance.
But yet, they always provide some of the highest-grossing movies.
And soon. Start-up-based movies will do what the superhero movies did for the action-adventure genre.
A self-interested love movie we will love
As odd as it may seem, selfishness is interesting to see now. After the years of being told to be selfless to see outright selfishness is somewhat captivating.
Like the Wolf Of Wallstreet, The Social Network, and Nightcrawler. Being in love with your idea or vision, or even yourself is just as if not more entertaining than falling in love with someone else.
Even if it does end with them being broke, alone, or even in jail.
But it’s not so much the fall we love. But the rise and highs of their road to success.
We know a lot of the main characters in these stories use tactics and have behaviors that are problematic. But yet, we still on some level cheer for them. Even if their end goal is the gathering of all personal information, selling missing leading stocks, or trying to make blood testing as easy as picking up stamps.
Regardless of their goals, as long as there's a problem to solve, drama to be had, and backstabbing to be done. We will watch in delight.
