Do not devalue what you drink, devaluing can harm you

There are tons of people drinking soda for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A family member would not end a day with at least one Pepsi soda. Occasionally, I’d drink a soda but was not hooked on them. Over the years, I drank less and less and finally discontinue all together after hearing how soda would cause bone loss over a period of time. The entire body has bones from your head to your toe, so drinking too much soda will eventually affect your entire body.

Occasionally if I saw someone close to me drinking a soda, I’d share my advice very cautiously regarding sodas not being healthy and why. Oftentimes my advice was politely heeded.

A few days ago, while having breakfast at at Meeting there was a couple sitting next to me and both were drinking sodas for breakfast I may add. Saw this but dismissed it and soon thereafter they exited the room. While the meeting was continuing I noticed the back of the coke can had 42 grams of sugar and was astounded. I kept staring at the can in disbelief, could believe my eyes. So I took out my ninety cent reading eyeglasses to confirm what I thought I saw. Indeed, the glasses confirmed the 42 grams of sugar in the coke, I was mortified. While it also had sodium but I was more alarmed about the sugar content. So much so, I had to take a picture of the back of the can. Coke shame on you!

Not sure why I was so surprised, I always knew sodas had a lot of sugar in them but 42 grams was unbelievable. Can you imagine the damage that is being done to the body especially when you drink it first thing in the morning? See the can nutrition facts below:

There are lots of reasons not to drink Soda, namely Coke with its’ 42 grams of sugar, and others.

Reasons to Avoid Drinking Soda

  1. Sugar usually a can of soda contains the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar which skyrockets the blood sugar, causes an insulin reaction in the body and may lead to diabetes or insulin resistance, along with weight gain and other health problems. The sugar is in the form of high fructose corn syrup which is the worst form of sugar to consume. See the can above, it is the second ingredient listed.
  2. Phosphoric Acid in sodas is unhealthy for the body where it interferes with the body’s ability to to absorb calcium and can lead to osteoporosis, cavities, and bone softening. It can slow your digestion and blocks your nutrient absorption because of it’s interaction with your stomach acid. It’s the forth ingredient listed on the can above.
  3. Artificial Sweeteners — Are just as bad as the high fructose corn syrup. Namely, in diet sodas, aspartame can be more harmful and has been linked to countless different health problems including seizures, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, diabetes, and emotional disorders. Diet sodas also increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, which causes belly fat, high blood sugar, and raised cholesterol.
  4. Caffeine — Most sodas contain caffeine, which has been linked to certain cancers, breast lumps, irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, and other problems.
  5. Water — The water used in soda is just simple tap water and can contain chemicals like chlorine, fluoride, and traces of heavy metals.
  6. Obesity — Research has shown that sodas can be linked to obesity. Each serving of soda consumed daily, the risk of obesity increased 1.6 times.
  7. No Nutritional Value — But lots of bodily damage and obesity.
  8. Dehydration — sodas don’t hydrate the body, whereas over the long run consumption may cause chronic dehydration.
  9. Bad for the Teeth — Drinking soda regularly causes plaque to build up on the teeth and can lead to cavities and gum disease.

In conclusion, pardon my French, but drinking sodas on a regular basis is like a death sentence literally to your body causing lots of health issues, diseases and obesity. There are tons of great substitute for sodas, you just have to do your homework. When you know better you do better. A little knowledge a day, will keep the doctor at bay.
