Why Read, Why Write
Writers to Read
I read to learn something new.
I read to be inspired. I read to laugh out loud. I read to be transported into another world. I read to listen to a great story. I read to learn the craft, and admire the wordsmithing, the creativity, and the beauty of language. I read for pleasure. I read for work. I read to stay informed. I read to try on a new idea. I read out of love, to family members.
I write to learn what I think.
I write to inspire. I write to chuckle out loud. I write to capture my memories. I write to leave a story behind. I write to explore and to explain. I write to have a dialogue with you, the imagined reader. I write because writing is fun.
These are readers I have enjoyed finding on Medium, and these stories are stories I have enjoyed reading, because they fit in one of those categories I listed.
@Loren Kantor is the best storyteller I have been reading on Medium. I love his stories about working in Los Angeles, Hollywood.
@David Martin makes me laugh out loud, but he can also deliver a point.
Carole Olsen is a peer-aged fellow-traveler, and is also funny.
@Scot Butwell precedes me on Medium by a few months, and I learn a lot by reading him. He is also generous to other writers.
@Marilyn Flowers writes beautifully of things that matter. I have also learned formatting from her.
I selfishly joined Medium to write. But I have found I enjoy reading at least as much.
Illumination also does a lot to amplify its writers. Unfortunately, some articles like the hand-picked recommendations, do not earn as many reads as they should get.
Reading and writing, what a luxury.
