Why Quitting Might Be the Best Thing to Do

Stop wasting your time and move on

Throughout my whole life, I’ve been told that quitting is bad. My school teachers, my parents, friends, and any people that I could get advice from were associating quitting with failure.

I got used to the thought that you have to stick it out no matter what otherways you’ll become a loser.

I was going to lessons that I’ve lost interest in, kept being friends with toxic people that were making me miserable, and pursuing a career path that I was not passionate about. It took me a couple of years of being completely miserable and lost to realize how wrong I was.

Life is short, and then you die

I don’t remember where I’ve heard this phrase, but for some reason, it stuck with me. Life is short. We hear this so often that the expression has lost all meaning. But it is one of the most important things that you have to keep in mind. Accepting this smile truth made me see some of my actions in a new light.

I started seeing time as a resource and realized that it is one of the few ones that we can’t buy and the one that is slipping away every second of every day.

Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.

— William Penn.

I realized that we can’t afford to waste time on things that we’re not passionate about or things that are making us unhappy.

The fear of dying is the one that I can’t seem to overcome, so I started using it as a catalyst for my decision making. Every time I realize that I’m stuck somewhere where I don’t want to be, I try to remember how little time we all have here, and it gets much easier to quit.

If you don’t quit you might never discover your real potential

“When quitting is done correctly, it isn’t giving up — it’s making room for something better.” ― Adam Smith

We all have things that we want to try out. Something that sparks our interest and something that we might be good at. You might want to start writing, try out web design, or start your own business.

Spending all your time doing something that is not fulfilling might leave you with no time or energy to actually try those things. And if you don’t try it, you might miss something that you could be good at, and that might make you much happier.

Moving on is good

You might need to start looking at quitting as moving on.

Sometimes to quit means to leave something in the past and reach for something better. It can mean that you’ve outgrown something, and you know that you can do better, or that you’ve realized that something is not for you and you should not waste any more of your time.

Whatever your reason is, you should know that quitting the things that are not for you does not always mean failing. It can mean making progress towards something that is a better fit.

Mental health

Pushing yourself to continue doing something that you don’t want to do can create a lot of stress that can have a negative impact on your mental health.

You might feel sad all the time, anxious, and uncertain about your future, develop anxiety, or even depression.

Not wanting to get out of bed in the morning is a big red flag that says that you have to put yourself and your mental health first. Maybe it is time you become more compassionate to yourself and give yourself a break.

I’m not trying to say that quitting is always the right thing to do. What I’m saying is that you should trust your gut and stop wasting your time when you clearly know you are.

You should not continue doing something that is making you unhappy or just doesn’t spark your interest only because you don’t want to seem like a failure.

Don’t let other’s opinions stop you from doing what is right and go figure out what it is that you want!
