Why Productivity is Important for Parents

“Boy on his father's shoulders, who is surfing on a board” by Filios Sazeides on Unsplash

Most of us want the best for our children. We work hard to provide and focus on making sure we can give them the things we didn’t have or the things we think they need. While these are good hopes and dreams for our children, what they really need are us.

They need their parents above all else.

In my search for productivity tips to help me be more efficient at work and create more margin I found out ways to do what I set out to do. And with the margin I am creating I am finding new ways to spend time with my children.

We all have a lot on our plates. All by ourselves we are responsible for our health, our bills, our kids, and our relationships. We also have extra things, HOA board meetings, clubs, church and other organizations we belong to. It is easy for us to get distracted or overburdened with things to do.

This is why productivity is important for parents.

If we want to make sure we balance our every day responsibilities and provide the constant, reliable, building relationships with our children we need to be productive. We need to be creating margin.

Our success as parents depends upon it.

What are you doing right now to create the margin you need to build into your kids? (You can share this in the responses below) I was really challenged to think about this while listening to a book called The Carpenter by Jon Gordon. I already know I will be reading this book over and over again.

While it is a business and life fable designed to help people learn to Love, Serve, and Care for clients and customers it reminded me of the importance to start those actions at home with my daughters.

It is a challenging reality to think we can easily ignore our children in order to provide for our children. And yet, we see this in our culture and society today. Many moms and dads are working hard to provide and yet they aren’t providing the basic need of being there for the children.

And I don’t know every situation. I know I am blessed to have a job which values “work/life balance” and the importance of family. There are a lot of stories out there about parents who are forced to work two or three jobs. And maybe they are completely on their own.

I don’t devalue those stories one bit.

I also know in a lot of those instances, parents want to be home with their children more. For those of us who have the ability to be home more often, we need to take it!

Start your productivity journey today. I believe I have found 21 useful productivity tips/hacks/tools to help you become more efficient at work and create more margin for what is really important in your life.

You don’t have to sign up for anything!

I have been sharing my productivity journey here on Medium by posting one to two times a week about these different tips. And I have been keeping all of these posts in a Medium Series:
