Why Now Is The Best Time To Write on Medium

This is why Medium is winning the content game.

With Quora introducing ads in their Spaces to TikTok getting banned in India, a lot of people are diversifying their online sources of income and Medium is on top of their radar.

Why are content creators leaving Quora?

I started my writing journey on Quora in 2015 and managed to post 1000+ answers on the platform ranging from short to full-length articles.

I garnered over 5 million views, a following of 17,000 people, and awarded as Quora Top Writer 2018.

In the initial days on Quora, my purpose was to gain knowledge and learn from people from different cultures, industries and engage in meaningful conversations. It eventually turned into a platform to share my college shenanigans and personal development journey.

It’s been said that it’s easier for a girl to build her audience online because of her appearance and unfortunately I can’t deny that.

I never intended to follow that path and restricted myself from posting my pictures on my blogs a Q&A platform like Quora.

Apart from shoving personal photos in various answers, people were desperately looking for anonymous romance tales from random people on the platform. These were the content that gets massive readers which resulted in poor and shallow content trends on Quora.

Quora Partner Program also benefitted the people who were spamming the platform with meaningless questions to make money whereas the people who were genuinely researching and spending hours in writing were not even taken into consideration in the QPP.

I get it; they have a different model and their revenue mostly comes from the questions. As a writer, I was disappointed and who wouldn’t be?

In the last six months, 80% of my favorite Quora writers migrated to either Medium or LinkedIn and some of them stopped writing at all.

Monetising Quora spaces and letting everyone start their space is the latest update made by the platform which allows people to share irrelevant articles and self-promotional material.

Why I chose Medium

The attachment I once had with the platform; the number of fake sad stories and intercourse stories kept escalating and the valuable content kept sinking in this algorithm game.

It’s great for entertainment and stories; you’d have dig deeper to find the answer or a writer who truly gives you value.

There’s always been a silent war between Quora and Medium, I have always defended Quora over the past few years but as a content creator, my preference doesn’t matter if my content is getting the acknowledgment it deserves.

I researched about Medium, and I learned about their Medium Partner Program and how they celebrate their writers and promote good content.

LinkedIn was another option I tried and so far it’d been going well, but there are a few drawbacks of writing on a professional social media platform. You try to sound more professional and select topics that go with the platform and these restrictions often come in between your creative voices.

On the contrary, Medium gives the freedom to its writer to allow them to experiment with their content.

The formatting tools and the UI of Medium are also robustly designed to make it easier to use.

“Surround yourself with those on the same mission as you.” -Anonymous

I just don’t want to write, but improve with every new article.

I want to read good content and be a part of the community which strives to create quality content.

If you’re a content writer or someone who’s interested in making money through writing, Medium is the best platform from you!
