Why Nothing Else Matters in Life Apart From Your Dreams
Because without dreams, life has no meaning
The concept of life means so many things to everyone based on their perception. To some people, it’s nothing but a struggle. While others believe it’s something worth more than what the world tells us — make merry, have fun, and die at the end. But what about you? What does life mean to you? Is it about making merry, having fun, and dying at the end as the world preaches to us? Or it’s something much more than the above?
These were the questions that popped up when my mind was racing to answer some challenges I’ve been facing lately. As someone who will describe himself as a thinker because my mind goes deeper on issues, the one thing that came to mind was life not being anything without dreams. Our lives get meaning through our dreams, and without those dreams, life is nothing, and it’s not worth living. I bet you feel the same way, too.
Why dreams are the only thing that matter in life
Dreams are life, and life is dreams. It wouldn’t be easy to understand to the shallow-minded, but this is more than real to the enlightened or the self-aware. Have you not experience waking up in the morning and didn’t have anything on your mind to pursue, and by that, you felt like nothing? Or hasn’t there been a day in your life that without doing something that fulfills your soul, you felt awkward, and you asked yourself what you’re living your life for? Talk of you not being able to meet the goals you have for your finances, relationship, health, family, etc. How does it feel? Not great, right?
These are signs that show that life has no meaning without dreams, and apart from our dreams, nothing matters. It isn’t rocket science or some theory that you could say you don’t understand that there should be an explanation. It’s real and easy to comprehend. I cannot be myself or happy because certain things I’ve envisioned for my life haven’t actualized that, sometimes sleeping at night is difficult for me. Isn’t it the same with you? Are you happy with your dreams not realized? Do you feel good about yourself despite it all? That, you wake up in the morning, you feel sound and energetic because your dreams haven’t manifested as they should? No! I don’t think so. If one is rational and knows who they are, they wouldn’t be happy or be able to sleep at night with their dreams hanging in the air. The idea of thinking about it will make them sleepless at night. They would be worried. I’m experiencing it. Something that makes me believe it’s what makes this life what it is, and without it, life is meaningless.
“Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly”. — Langston Hughes
How to make your dreams come true
When it comes to making a dream come true, many people give advice based on their experiences. From my experience, the best way is to first look at your life circumstances and decide on the best approach available to you that you can use to actualize the dream. It comes through the planning process. Is it about moving to a different environment — one which is related to the vision and the person you want to become? Is it about finding new friends — those on the same life journey as you or already doing what you want to do and achieving results? Is it about taking a job to make some money to take care of your upkeep? Or it’s about taking new courses and sharpening your mindset and skills? You must know all these things beforehand. After deciding on all these things, the next step is to launch — take action and keep going.
But remember, when you’ve launched, and you’re working on the dream, things wouldn’t flow and be direct as you may think. There will be obstacles and challenges along the way but what you can do is understand it’s part of the process and still keep on. When you start, you wouldn’t be able to do the work in a day. It would take time. The reason is that it takes a habit to make things that aren’t already a part of you, a part of you. James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, talks about this in his book and advice on taking little incremental action every day on new things that you set your mind to that aren’t a part of you. And since what you’re pursuing isn’t something that’s already a part of you, you will have a hard time acting on it and realizing it. It wouldn’t be easy. So you want to be mindful and move with the flow bit by bit and never think the dream wouldn’t be possible to achieve because of the difficulty that comes with it. You also want to bear in mind to read, research, learn, and do the things related to what you’re pursuing and how to bring it about. That’s the sure way I know to achieve every dream and what you want.
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.” — James Clear
The mistakes you need to avoid going after your dreams
Whenever we discover our dreams or conceive an idea that we’re passionate about and want to pursue, we make tons of mistakes. The reason is that we don’t seek expert advice or information on that which we’re following.
Before setting out, avoid the mistake of not seeking advice from people already doing what you want to do. When I discovered my writing potential and wanted to write, I got in touch with Ayodeji Awosika because he was already doing what I wanted to do and achieving results. The advice and the education I’ve received from him are why I realize my dream day in and day out. Secondly, you must be receptive and be willing to learn. Often, most people make the mistake of letting their ego lead. They’re not able to bring themselves down and learn from people who are less of their so-called “status in life,” thinking they are better off. But the question is, if you’re smart, why don’t you have what you want and happy? Also, talking about your dream or what you’re pursuing is another mistake you must avoid. I never knew about this, and I was always engaging myself in this habit of telling people about my ideas. Only God knows how things turned out to be in my life. The reason is that there are external forces that fight against our progress in life. They are always among us within our families and friends and keeping mute while working on the dream is the best way to go. If you want to know more on why you must stay silent on your dreams, read the third law of 48 laws of power by Robert Green, and you’ll understand things well. These are some of the little mistakes that we make; going after our dreams and bearing them in mind, and avoiding them will help you.
Final thoughts
In the next couple of months, it will be 33 years since the day I step foot on this planet. While I can’t say I’ve known it all, I’ve tasted a bit of every life there’s on the surface of the earth. In all of my experiences, the one thing that I’ve realized is that life is all about the dreams we have and what we aspire to become. Without those things, life has no meaning, and it isn’t worth living. Our dreams make this life what it is, and without one, it useless to be alive. You can speak to almost everyone inclined to this life, and indeed, they will tell you the same thing as I have.
Suppose you haven’t thought of dreaming; it’s time to do so because all of life is nothing without dreams. Dream and actualize it. You’ll see how happy and fulfilled you’ll become.
