#16 —The Art of Commenting — A Collaborative Series with James Bellerjeau and Debdutta Pal
Why Newbies Should Stop Commenting on Top Writers’ Stories
Top writers are bright lights, and newbies are moths
By top writer, I don’t mean one of the countless writers with top writer badges. These are ridiculously easy to get. No, I mean someone with 10,000+ followers, someone whose articles get claps from hundreds of fans and thousands of people who read them.
Like light attract moth, top writers attract newbies.
It’s the same star system everywhere. Some top writers cynically encourage them, but most newbies don’t need the cheering. You can fan over a star all you want as a reader, but as a writer, it’s a mistake.
Let me be blunt.
- No, top writers won’t notice you.
- No, they won’t read back your stories.
As a newbie, invest your time reading and commenting on stories by other newbies. It will make them happy, and they will very likely read back.
The Art of Commenting is a collaborative series between art and challenge. Read all the episodes here:
