Why Must Everyone Skydive?!

Everyone has a bunch of things on their bucket list, and for me, skydiving topped the charts.

My fascination with skydiving began at the tender age of 12. The idea of jumping out of a plane, flying through the clouds was something that no one could prepare one for. I had spent a ton of hours daydreaming about the moment when gravity would just turn out to be a myth and I would be experiencing the bliss of freefalling.

Finally, two months ago, my best friends orchestrated a plan for skydiving, and without a moment’s hesitation, I happily agreed to join. Within two weeks, I was on the verge of jumping out of a plane, and I have never been more excited to do anything in my entire life. Even as I was filling out the waiver form, the feeling of fear was deeply overshadowed by sheer excitement.

The next couple of days were spent watching videos about Skydiving and announcing to everyone about my skydiving expedition. To be honest, those two weeks felt like the longest weeks of my life. My excitement was exponentially increasing as each day passed by.

And finally, the day had arrived, I had reached the skydiving venue along with my friends and we checked in. Then we were observing all the procedures before skydiving while we patiently waited for our turn as we watched people skydiving. I was still in disbelief that I was going to jump off a plane along with my best friends. I was feeling extremely grateful and excited.

After a while, I was welcomed by Mr. Luci, my Skydiving Tandem Jumper. He asked me if it was my first time skydiving. I replied, “Yes, it is my first time” to which he replied, “Me too”. His sense of humor was spot on and I just couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Soon after he did all the briefing, and I was ready to jump off a plane. Then I met the cameraman assigned to me and we shot a small introduction video, and we were ready to go.

With my best friends(I am wearing a black T-shirt)

We all boarded a vehicle before getting on the plane. After getting inside the vehicle I just asked Luci if we could do something crazy in the sky like a backflip or something. He replied, “How about I don’t open the parachute? Would that be enough??”. I again burst into laughter and replied, “Not the kind of crazy I was looking for”.

We boarded the plane, and this is when the fear started to creep in a little as I was pumped with adrenaline. Everyone had to jump depending on their seating position. I was the fourth person to jump. We quickly scaled 13,000 feet and it was time to jump. They slid the door open and one by one everyone started to jump off the plane. As my turn approached, I went towards the door and I looked out, I felt goosebumps. It was magical and then we jumped. The first few seconds as I jumped, I was in awe thinking how beautiful it looked.

This picture was captured right after I jumped off the plane

The next forty-five seconds of free fall is beyond words that I can explain. The feeling of fear had disappeared, and I was mesmerized by the beautiful view it offered. I felt so happy and liberated that all the problems in my life seemed so miniscule. I was feeling the gush of air hitting my face, flying through clouds. I fall short of words when I talk about skydiving. One cannot express how it feels skydiving and everyone should at least try to do it once in their life. I was fortunate enough to skydive in Dubai as it offered the jumpers arguably the best view out there for skydivers.

Palm Jumeirah View

After the freefall, the parachute was deployed and then Luci asked if I was having fun. I told him that I was having the time of my life. And we were gliding through the sky in pursuit of land. I felt so happy that I finally did it, I finally accomplished it. After a couple of minutes of gliding, we touched down and I got rid of all the harnesses and ran to my friends and hugged them and then we looked at each other knowing that we made it.

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM SKYDIVING

  1. You start to realize how the problems in your life are so minuscule.
  2. You get a different perspective on life and changes the way you approach things.
  3. You feel more confident in your skin.
  4. Your risk appetite fairly increases.
  5. Skydiving itself, jumping from 13,000 feet isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and not everyone dares to do it. This is the closest one can come to flying.
  6. Cannot deny the bragging rights that come along with skydiving.
  7. Cannot emphasize the number of times my skydiving experience has become an icebreaker.

Now let’s talk about the cons of skydiving.

  1. It is extremely addicting, even after skydiving I still watch videos of skydiving regularly and I have decided to get a license for skydiving.
  2. It is a bit expensive

So, to everyone who is still reading this article, do skydive when you can. It is arguably one of the best things one can experience. If you have any skydiving stories feel free to tell me about them in the comments.
