Why Leaning in and Choosing Your Hard Will Be the Best Thing You Ever Do

When you know, you know

Life is hard, period. But what’s even harder is not living.

If you are not living because of your inability to see possibilities and live to your potential, then you have the perfect conditions to create the hardest substance known on earth, a Diamond.

Only this Diamond won’t sparkle. It will fail to shine bright.

So if life is hard and hard is always relative, what can we do to be that Diamond that shines and not merely a hard crystal that exists.

For one, we can exercise our free will when given a choice. We can choose our hard.

Easier said than done!

How many of us have found that when faced with a choice, a decision or a dilemma, we deliberate over the path to take because we are consumed with second-guessing how it will change our life?

We find ourselves sometimes stuck, frozen or caught in analysis paralysis?

I know I sometimes do because I am often right in the middle of thinking about the consequences, analysing the options, and imagining a series of what-ifs.

But here’s the rub, there are always too many variables to accurately predict the future. We can’t plan and legislate for every eventuality; we can’t always know how we will feel. We can’t know everything.

We certainly don’t know our unknowns.

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know — Donald Rumsfeld

So maybe it is prudent for us to let go and go with the flow once in a while.

Learning to focus our time and energy on what we do know and trust ourselves is key to leaning in.

Some people call this listening to your heart, intuition or putting our trust in our inner higher self.

Which is not easy, but then again, life is…

When we first try, it may feel like standing on the edge of a precipice, ready to launch. But here’s the thing we often know more than we think. I bet you have found yourself thinking at some point in your life.

When you know, you know

And when we think about it, what is trust? Nothing more than a series of decisions made moment after moment based on predictability, repeatability and compassion.

So if we can hold a combination of the three for ourselves, we will know today we are who we are because of the sum of all our decisions.

So be kind to yourself, trust your heart, and listen to your intuition. Your inner knowing is wiser than you will ever think.
