Why it’s time again to marvel

When was the last time you looked at the world with wonder and awe? A small mind-shift is enough to make this experience immediately.

When we get up in the morning, take a shower, have breakfast, brush our teeth and go to work, the great wonders seem to be far away.

Just look at all the tired and empty faces that you’ re seeing everywhere. They are all like you — none of them has taken the time today to pause and become aware of something special — to be alive.

When I was a kid, I used to marvel at it a lot.

A child has never heard of cell biology or consciousness models and DNA. I didn’t know about any of this when I was five years old. It was about that age when I realized for the first time in the middle of everyday life: I am alive! How is that possible?

Suddenly you look around and don’t understand how you can see, hear, smell and taste at all. You don’t even know why you can look around. Is that magic? Or am I just dreaming?

And then Mama comes into the room and calls you to lunch. You are back in reality and forget this amazement as fast as it came.

Then life became too loud and too fast

In retrospect, everything seems to have happened so damn fast: Primary school, secondary school, a thousand firsts, university, marriage, a first real job, the first self-written book — in between travels, defeats and victories, friends who came and went and millions of moments.

I’ve gotten used to being alive. And that’s how we all are, isn’t it? Someday we’ll wonder what all this is about. Am I on the right job? Am I happy? Why can’t I do this and why can’t I do that?

Stop for a moment and sit down — it’s time again to marvel

This article promised to give you back this original amazement and let you see the world with different eyes immediately. And this is how you can have it:

Sit down or just stand there. Look around and understand that you only exist once. Think about it, that it is a miracle to experience the world with exactly your consciousness. Feel for a moment what it feels like to live.

And that’s it. If that doesn’t set you off, then you didn’t really get involved. Maybe you think it’s silly, or you’re afraid of it. Get over it and try again. This pure experience of awe and wonder is worth it. After all these years I have rediscovered it today.
