Why It’s OK That Your Bed Is Your Office Today

Sometimes your morning routine is you listening to your staff meeting on mute, camera off, in your bed.

“But I should have a morning routine and a designated work space…”

Yes, those are good. But we are all so incredibly exhausted right now, mentally, physically, emotionally — in every way possible. You might have one a few days out of the week, every work day, or none.

Give yourself a break.

Should you work from your bed every morning?

Maybe not? Maybe so. It’s up to you. Does it work for you? Do you like getting dressed and making your bed? Maybe you’re productive there on Monday in the morning, and when you feel like it, you get up and get ready and move to a different space.

Maybe… you work from bed all day and you’re happy there!

What do you need?

I’m saying it’s healthy to check-in with yourself, take the time you need to take.

For example, I started out working from my bed the first few days we had to stay home. I quickly learned that was a recipe for disaster, so I started getting dressed. I started making my bed every morning like clockwork.

I felt really, really good about that for another week or so, before I had a crash. Then, all of the sudden it wasn’t working out so well. It was too regimented. I was overwhelmed.

I haven’t slept well for the past week or so…

Because my body is finally realizing that everything is off. My introvert “I was born to stay in” mentality is finally realizing that I’m fine with staying in if it’s on my own terms.

So, do what you need to do for you.

“But we’re all home, we all have this free time, everyone knows no one is busy…”

You deserve time to yourself. Just like if you were out and about, you deserve time to shut it all off, and just not. You are not being lazy if you don’t answer every email right when you receive it. You’re doing what’s best for you.

I’m suggesting a balance…

Wake up early. Make some coffee. Make your bed. Get dressed, have a schedule — or not. You’re allowed balance.

You are important.

Do what is best for you productivity and health-wise. You’ll find it (at least for this week…) if you haven’t — I think we’re all working on that every single day that we’re home, and I think life will look a lot different on the other side.

But for now?

It’s OK to sometimes work from your bed.

Enjoy it even — when things are back to the “new normal”, you might wish you’d done it a little bit more!

Love yourself today so that you’re ready to go out and take on new adventures… when the time comes.
