Why is the world in such a rush?
My experience and why the world needs to take a breath of fresh air.
The older I get the more I realise how stress and anxiety affect pretty much every single person around me. Four years ago if you asked me if I was stressed, I’d always respond with “Nah, I don’t ever get stressed”, now I could probably mention one stressful thing I deal with day-to-day.
We all experience stress in one way or another.
I think the biggest leading factor that gives rise to stress is the fact that we're all in such a rush
Let me explain:
Working at a service station Starbucks, I saw thousands of people come and go on each shift.
A curious and observant mind always comes to a conclusion at one point or another.
My conclusion was that: every single person seemed to be in a huge hurry.
Watching from behind the counter I got to witness thousands of ants scrambling (almost all over each other), fighting for who gets to use the Macdonal’s self-service machine first.
I wish the earth could stop spinning for just one second, so we could have one moment to simply breath in and out very slowly. To catch our breath finally.
Almost no one thinks before they speak nowadays
Were not in a rush to speak. So why do most of us try to sum up an answer in seconds when asked a question.
Maybe if we took a minute to comprehend the question, we’d come up with an answer twelve times better than the one you can cough up in just a second.
Let’s use Keanu Reeves as an example.
If you’ve ever watched the man speak in an interview, you’ll see what I mean.
He takes a couple of minutes sometimes once asked a question. He doesn’t splurt out gibberish.
Every word that comes out the man’s mouth is for a reason.
It’s incredible.
That’s one person who’s not in such a rush always. He doesn’t care about the awkward silences. He takes his time, and it shows.
Truly, I think technology and technological development is the mitigating factor for causing such chaos among us
Think about it, since the invention of the phone, people have become so much lazier.
We hardly have to do anything. We can look things up right here and there.
Who even reads books in this day and age? (Well, I do, but that’s not the point)
The point is, since phones, laptops, desktops and fridges that tell you that your yoghurts going out of date, we have become lazy.
Laziness was the start to the chaos.
The fact that we can have so much almost instantly had caused each and every one of us to become impatient.
I see this every day of my life.
Patience is an endangered species, we really need to protect it.
The number of rude customers I have dealt with in the 5 months I worked at Starbucks was incredible. People will be rude to you simply because they can’t wait for 2 minutes.
I’ve had 200 customers at once come in and the 200th customer was the first to ask when their drink is ready.
“Sorry sir, you’re not important enough to be moved before the 199 other people before you. Believe it or not.”
We need to learn some patience or soon we’ll be heading to a dark world.
I think soon enough we’re going to have to start reverting to the good ole’ days, where people had to actually walk to their friend's house and see what they're up to. Where we didn’t watch TV all day long, where we had the patience to wait in line for our coffee and weren’t rude to someone trying their absolute best to be quick.
I hope we find patience once again and stop rushing through life.
