Is The Act of Kneading Normal? Should I worry About My Cat?

If you’re a new cat owner, then you might get worried when you see your cat kneading or making biscuits as we cat lovers like to call it.

It’s A Way for Cats to Show Their Happiness

When your cats make biscuits, it might simply mean that they are happy. Cats that are happy like to show their emotions by kneading on or near their owners. In some cases, your pet may be reflecting your own emotions.

So, if you’re happy they may feed on that emotion and knead you to show they noticed how you are feeling.

They Are Claiming You as Their Own

Cats love to mark what they consider their territory. When a cat kneads on you it might mean that they are claiming you as their human. This is especially true in cases where there are multiply cats in the same household.

I often find my cats taking turns kneading my stomach as if to say, “hey leave him alone I’ve already claimed him”.

It’s A Leftover Behavior from Kittenhood

In some cases, your fur baby may be kneading due to past behavior. Kittens will knead on the stomachs of their mother during feeding time. This helps with the nursing process and makes both kitten and mother feel content.

It Helps Them Prepare for A Nap

When your feline friend starts to feel a little sleepy, they often will knead. The act of kneading helps them relax and get ready for some shuteye. They will often knead on their favorite blanket. In the wild big cats also knead before a nap. This helps them push down grass and other plants so they can rest more comfortably.

Conclusion

Now you know why your cat is making biscuits on your tummy. If you’re like me, you find this behavior both cute and comforting.

If your cat also kneads let me know in the comments. I always like to hear stories from other cat lovers.
