Why Is Medium Giving Me Such a Small Payment For My Content?

As an author on Medium, I am extremely dissatisfied with the way I have been compensated in the past two months. In March, I had 10,885 views and was paid $384. In April, my views increased to 15,201, but I only earned $166. There is clearly a significant discrepancy between the number of views and my earnings, which begs the question: why is Medium paying me so little for my content?

Firstly, I must acknowledge the recent changes in Medium’s payment program. Previously, authors received a higher payout based on views, but now there are various factors that influence earnings, such as reader engagement and time spent on the site. However, even considering these changes, I cannot help but feel disappointed with the recent payments.

Clearly, the number of views is not the sole factor determining how much I am paid. It is possible that my views were of lower quality in April, which could explain the discrepancy. However, I find it unlikely that the difference would be so significant. Additionally, I have continued to produce similar-quality content in both months, so there is no clear explanation for the substantial difference in payments.

I am aware that this article is not the only one addressing this issue, and I stand in solidarity with all the authors who have been underpaid. It is crucial for Medium to reconsider its payment algorithm and work together with authors to ensure they are fairly compensated for their work.
