Why India banned PUBG, TikTok, and other Chinese App?
India banned another 118 apps citing national security concerns.
India and China rank at the top for their military strength. According to business insider, China ranks 3rd as the most powerful military in 2019 while India ranks 4th in the world. Due to highly populated and advance nations clash may result in a great economic loss.
The actual trend of banning the Chinese mobile app started due to border clashes between India-China since 5 May 2020. According to bbc.com, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in Ladakh because of China breaking an agreement with respect to the Line of Actual Control(LAC) in the Galwan Valley.
India even accused China of occupying 38,000 sq km of its territory. Chinese even said that the Indians had crossed the border twice provoking and attacking the Chinese workforce. After that due to national security concerns, India had initially banned 59 apps in June including TikTok, UC Browser, and then 47 apps in July.
India’s Ministry of Electronics and IT released a list of 118 apps that would be banned in India citing national security concerns. On September 2, 2020, the Indian Ministry of Information and Technology banned 118 Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile, PUBG Mobile Lite, Baidu, Baidu Express Edition Alipay, Tencent Weiyun, and many more.
The Chinese government even slammed India for taking this step. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying even claimed that India is performing only after the US isolate Chinese products.
After the border tensions between two neighboring countries, there has been an urge to boycott Chinese products. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India even claimed that we want “Self Reliant India” even called Atmanirbhar Bharat to support Indian developers, provide security to Indian users and grow the Indian Economy instead of dependent on other.
According to data, India exports 5% and imports more than 14% from China in the financial year 2019–20. India was just going on a trade deficit while China was the biggest exporter to India.
India-China agrees to resolve Border-Tension
There was severe tension between India and China. On the other hand, US President, Donald Trump supported India and wants to handle the situation. There was an ongoing talk between two nations India and China. No one wants the US to interfere in their situation.
There was a long discussion between two neighboring nations to control the situation but of no use.
Finally, The border tension was concluded by the Indian defense minister Rajnath Singh and China’s defense minister and state councilor Wei Fengher in Russia. The meeting went on for nearly two and a half hours and both agreed that the border tension greatly affected both the countries. They stated that the two neighboring nations will resolve their issue through peace instead of taking aggressive decisions.
The agreement was just a bubble
According to me, all this agreement put forward is just fake and nothing else and the problem will resolve only after humans are willing to live freely.
The war between the two-nation so far
It was not just the start of the war between the two nations. The war persists since 1962 which was won by China and in 1967 which was won by India.
India and China fought a war in 1962, 1967 and after that, in 2017 the two neighboring countries even clashed in the Doklam region. And so on the tensed is from decades.
Data breaching
According to various reports, China’s popular video-sharing app TikTok had multiple security vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity firm Check Point even said that they found flaws that could allow hackers to take control of TikTok accounts and manipulate the content, upload and delete videos and reveal personal information such as a private email address. Ameria too wanted to ban TikTok because of Data breaching.
Conclusion
The India and Chinese border were not well defined which arouse a tense like situation between both the nations and after that they were developing their border roads and infrastructure just to secure themselves which led to a more tense situation.
